Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description
This position is responsible for designing custom automated equipment, spending approximately 75%-80% of the time on design work. The role involves taking initial machine design concepts and developing them further, working directly with customers to identify necessary components, design structures, and specify requirements such as cylinder size, valving, and force. The remaining 25% of the time will be spent on the floor, supporting the build and assembly team, providing an excellent opportunity to learn and grow within the industry.
Responsibilities

+ Design custom automated equipment and systems.

+ Work directly with customers to identify needs and specifications.

+ Identify components for purchase and design structural elements such as brackets and mounts.

+ Determine specifications like cylinder size, valving, and required force.

+ Participate in project discussions and task prioritization with engineers and production teams.

+ Support design and development for automated systems in the RV, steel, and medical industries.

+ Engage with the build and assembly team on the floor to support ongoing projects.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 2 years of experience in designing machines or mechanisms with moving parts.

+ Proficiency in Solidworks.

+ Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis).

+ Understanding of motion and force.

+ Initiative to problem solve and drive projects to completion.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Engineering Degree (nice to have).

+ Experience in project management (nice to have).

+ Experience working with customers (nice to have).

Work Environment
The work environment is a laid-back, yet results-oriented atmosphere where employees wear multiple hats within custom machine design, enhancing their mechanical engineering skills. The team consists of 30 people, including 6 engineers, and operates a 45-hour work week. Dress code is casual, with jeans and hoodies being typical attire unless customer visits are scheduled. Employees enjoy 5 days of PTO, 6 standard holidays, and access to Udemy after six months of employment. The company provides a turnkey custom automation solution, focusing on manufacturing automation solutions for productivity, cycle time, and labor optimization.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Three Rivers, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.66 - $45.67/hr.
