Overview: What Is a Medical Biller?
A medical biller manages insurance claims and payment processes for healthcare providers. They transform coded medical records into claims, submit these to insurers or government agencies, and handle all follow-up related to payments, denials, and patient billing. Medical billers are crucial in ensuring healthcare facilities receive timely and accurate payment for services.
Core Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance companies.
Check patient records and insurance information for accuracy and completeness.
Process bills and invoices for medical services rendered.
Track payment status, reconcile accounts, and follow up on outstanding balances.
Communicate with insurance companies to investigate and resolve denials or rejections.
- Generate reports and maintain detailed billing records.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other privacy or security regulations.
Technology Setup for Remote Billers
Personal computer or laptop (recommended at least 8GB RAM) with updated security software.
Stable broadband internet (minimum 25 Mbps).
Access to medical billing software (such as those widely used in the US healthcare industry).
