Job Summary
The Metrology and Application Engineer will be responsible for operating advanced metrology and characterization tools, developing applications recipes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support process and technology needs. This role involves tool operation, recipe development, documentation, vendor coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure seamless metrology operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operate metrology and characterization tools (e.g., ellipsometer, XRF, four‑point probe, defect/optical inspection; SEM/XRD/AFM exposure is a plus) to deliver accurate wafer measurements in compliance with SOPs and BKMs.Develop and maintain metrology recipes and applications, ensuring accuracy and repeatability; take training on new tools and applications, and work with BU and global/local application teams to implement Best Known Methods (BKMs) and support evolving process and technology needs.Create and maintain SOPs and BKMs, ensuring documentation reflects process changes, recipe updates, and tool upgrades; report recipe changes and critical updates to team leads.Generate and maintain SPC charts to monitor tool and process stability; analyze trends and drive data-informed improvements in MTTR, MTBF, and reliability.Maintain detailed tool logs (usage, anomalies, recipe changes); support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for metrology-related quality issues.Participate in tool installation planning with EHS, design teams, construction and logistics teams, and OEM vendors to learn processes and address issues; take initiative to lead installation and qualification activities when required as experience grows.Support technical discussions with vendors for troubleshooting, application enhancements, and tool performance; take initiative to lead projects where required.General Profile
Good knowledge of Semiconductor Wafer Metrology, Calibration, Thin Film Metrology, Characterization, and tools such as Ellipsometry, XPS, XRD, and Particle Inspection systems.Wet bench (manual or automated) experience is a plusBasic understanding of PVD and CVD semiconductor processes.Willingness to learn and take ownership of application development for various metrology tools and techniques, including driving improvements and supporting new technology introductions.Functional Knowledge, Problem Solving, and Interpersonal Skills
