Job Description
Your opportunity to join our National Laboratory at Lytton!
The Microbiologist/Chemist you will operate across two specialized laboratory environments, working both collaboratively and independently to conduct microbiological testing in our NATA accredited laboratory and nutritional analysis of poultry feed formulations. This dual-role position involves systematic sampling and testing of raw materials and finished feed products, managing microbiological quality assurance procedures and providing comprehensive laboratory support across both Laboratories as required. The successful candidate will gain valuable cross-disciplinary experience in food safety microbiology and feed chemistry analysis.
This position is based at our Lytton site working fulltime, Monday to Friday, with ad hoc Saturdays required.
Key responsibilities:
- Receive and process samples for microbiological and nutritional testing across both laboratory areas
- Prepare samples using established sterile and analytical techniques with comprehensive training provided
- Conduct routine laboratory testing including microbiological analysis and wet chemistry procedures reporting results to the Laboratory Manager (or delegate).
- Participate in result reviews and contribute to our quality assurance processes
- Assist with ordering laboratory supplies and maintaining stock levels
- Support laboratory maintenance through regular cleaning and basic equipment care in accordance with NATA guidelines
- Engage with diverse sample types and testing challenges, ensuring no two days are exactly alike
Key requirements:
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders (Laboratory team, QA, Operations, and Production)
- Strong work ethic suited to high-throughput testing environments with tight analytical deadlines
- Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles
- NATA accredited laboratory experience highly regarded and food microbiology or feed analysis background advantageous
- Collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and technical disciplines
- Quality-focused mindset with commitment to accurate analytical results and customer service
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting and experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) preferred. Macro programming skills advantageous but not essential
