Mill Supervisor – Process Erection & Commissioning

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mill Supervisor – Process Erection & Commissioning with strong hands‑on expertise in the process commissioning and start‑up of FLSmidth Vertical Roller Mills (ATOX / OK™ Mills) and Ball Mills. This project‑focused role is responsible for leading and supervising process‑related activities during erection support, pre‑commissioning, commissioning, start‑up, performance testing, and handover to operations, ensuring safe execution and achievement of design and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide process oversight during erection and installation of FLSmidth VRM and Ball Mill systems, ensuring process requirements and OEM recommendations are correctly implemented.
- Review system readiness from a process perspective, including gas flow paths, material transport circuits, separators, dampers, ducts, and auxiliaries.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure process interfaces and interlocks are correctly installed and functional.
- Support contractor and site teams to ensure erection activities meet process design intent and commissioning readiness.
- Lead and execute process pre‑commissioning activities, including system checks, dry runs, interlock verification, and operational readiness.
- Supervise and participate in No Load Tests (NLT) and initial system trials in line with FLSmidth commissioning procedures.
- Support and lead load commissioning, focusing on process stabilization of VRM and Ball Mill systems.
- Commission and optimize key process parameters, including:
- Mill feed rate and material characteristics
- Grinding pressure and bed stability
- Mill vibration and differential pressure
- Gas flow, mill outlet temperature, and pressure balance
- Separator performance (rotor speed, cut size, efficiency)
- Work closely with CCR operators and automation teams during commissioning and start‑up.
- Lead first material feed, ramp‑up, and stabilization to achieve design throughput, product quality, and energy consumption targets.
- Identify and troubleshoot process‑related issues such as high vibration, high DP, unstable grinding bed, poor separation efficiency, or quality deviations.
- Support execution of performance guarantee and reliability tests during the commissioning phase.
- Implement corrective actions and fine‑tuning based on process trends and operating data.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Enforce FLSmidth safety standards, plant safety rules, and permit‑to‑work systems during commissioning and start‑up activities.
- Conduct toolbox talks and participate in risk assessments related to commissioning operations.
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with environmental and dust emission norms.
Coordination, Reporting & Handover
- Act as the process focal point between ಗು.project management, OEM specialists, contractors, and client representatives.
- Monitor commissioning progress, identify process risks, and recommend mitigation measures.
- Prepare commissioning reports, process logs, punch lists, and performance summaries.
- Support training of plant operations teams and ensure a smooth handover from project phase to O&M.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Production Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in cement plant projects with strong exposure to process erection support, commissioning, start‑up, and stabilization of FLSmidth VRM and Ball Mill systems.
- FLSmidth OEM training or certifications will be a strong advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong process expertise in FLSmidth ATOX Raw Mills and OK™ Cement Mills.
- In‑depth understanding of VRM and Ball Mill process control philosophy.
- Hands‑on experience with FLS ECS / ProcessExpert or similar advanced process control systems.
- Proven ability to analyze trends and troubleshoot process instability during start‑up.
- Strong coordination skills across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to work under commissioning timelines and operational pressure.
- Clear ragaz communication with CCR, OEM, and client teams.
- Hands‑on, process‑driven, and results‑oriented approach.
