Job Description
The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) provides direct behavioral support and consultation services across four elementary schools. This onsite role focuses on implementing positive behavior interventions, supporting school teams, and promoting safe, effective learning environments for students with behavioral needs. The BIS will collaborate closely with another BIS and a Special Education Administrator to ensure consistency and effectiveness of behavioral programming.
Caseload & Work Environment

Supports four (4) elementary school sites

Position open to qualified BCBAs or Special Education Teachers
Key Responsibilities

Consult with school teams to design and implement positive behavior interventions and supports

Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and use data to guide intervention planning

Implement behavior support strategies that reinforce positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors

Utilize de-escalation strategies and behavior redirection techniques during escalated situations

Support the development and implementation of IEPs in alignment with district, state, and federal requirements

Provide training and guidance to school staff on behavior strategies and recommendations

Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students, staff, and school communities

Use data collection and analysis to inform programming decisions and monitor student progress

Respond calmly and flexibly during crisis situations and adapt to changing student needs

Ensure compliance with School Board policies, administrative procedures, and school handbooks

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
Qualifications
-
BCBA certification OR licensed Special Education Teacher

Special Education Teachers must hold a Minnesota Tier 3 or Tier 4 license

Strong experience with behavior intervention, FBAs, and positive behavior supports

Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across multiple school sites
