The MSP Onboarding Technician is responsible for executing the technical onboarding of new managed services clients and supporting MSP project work for existing clients. This role focuses primarily on onboarding engagements, including technical discovery, documentation, and deployment of MSP tools and services. The MSP Onboarding Technician works closely with MSP Project Managers, MSP Project Engineers, and the Network Operations Center to ensure new clients are transitioned into managed services efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with defined standards and scopes of work. This role may also support other MSP professional services projects as needed; however, onboarding and associated discovery and tool deployments are the primary responsibility.

Types of MSP Projects Onboarding Overview:
• Execute the technical onboarding of new MSP clients, ensuring a smooth and consistent transition into managed services.
• Perform detailed technical discovery of client environments using approved discovery tools and onsite assessments.
• Deploy, configure, and validate MSP tools and platforms in accordance with internal standards. • Collaborate with Project Managers to align technical execution with onboarding timelines, scope, and client expectations.
• Document client environments, configurations, assets, and findings in the company documentation platform.
• Identify technical risks, gaps, or remediation needs and escalate findings to project and leadership teams.

• Network monitoring: Auvik 
• Configuration and change tracking: Liongard 
• Security awareness training: Phin

  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA): DUO 


Professional Services
While onboarding is the primary focus, this role may also support MSP professional services projects, including but not limited to:

Networking Projects:
• Installation and replacement of firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and related infrastructure. Server and Infrastructure
Projects:
• Installation or replacement of on-premises or cloud-hosted servers.
• Configuration of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file services, and related roles.
Microsoft 365 / Azure / Entra Projects: 
• Assisting with Microsoft 365 migrations and configuration.
• Supporting Azure and Entra domain joining activities under project guidance. 
• Assisting with SharePoint configuration and file migrations. 

Key Responsibilities


Technical Execution & Discovery
• Perform comprehensive technical discovery during MSP onboarding engagements using Network Detective and onsite validation.
• Deploy and configure MSP tools including RMM, Auvik, Liongard, Phin, Avanan, backup platforms, and DUO MFA.
• Validate successful deployment and proper operation of monitoring, security, backup, and alerting systems.
• Troubleshoot onboarding-related issues and coordinate resolution with internal teams.

Documentation & Standards
• Accurately document client environments, assets, configurations, credentials, and diagrams in Hudu.
• Ensure documentation meets internal standards and is completed in a timely manner.
• Maintain clear records of onboarding tasks, findings, and completed work. Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with Project Managers to align technical execution with onboarding plans.
• Communicate technical findings, risks, and remediation recommendations clearly to internal stakeholders.
• Participate in onboarding handoffs to service and support teams to ensure continuity.

Quality & Continuous Improvement
• Follow established onboarding procedures, checklists, and best practices.
• Participate in post-onboarding reviews and process improvement initiatives.
• Identify recurring onboarding issues or inefficiencies and recommend improvements.

Physical Demands
• Lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, twisting, and standing during onsite work.
• Travel to client locations and back to headquarters, averaging 30–60 miles one way.
• Occasional out-of-town travel may be required depending on client location and onboarding scope.
• Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours, including evenings or weekends, as required by onboarding schedules or client needs.

Work Environment 
• Combination of office-based work at In-Telecom headquarters and onsite client work. 
• Majority of work performed indoors, with occasional field installations and surveys. 
• Role may require overnight or multi-day travel for client onboardings. 
• Use of company-issued tools and company-issued vehicle for client travel.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise


Minimum Qualifications
• Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in an MSP or comparable IT services environment.
• Hands-on experience with Windows workstations and servers.
• Working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft 365, DNS, DHCP, and basic networking concepts.
• Experience deploying or supporting MSP tools such as RMM, endpoint security, backups, and MFA.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience performing MSP client onboardings. 
• Experience with: o Hudu documentation o Auvik o Liongard o Phin o Avanan o Axcient, Datto, and ConnectWise SaaS Backup o DUO MFA 
• Exposure to Microsoft 365 migrations, Azure, Entra ID, and SharePoint. 
• Networking experience involving firewalls, switches, and wireless access points. 
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent.
