Job Description
A Network Engineer and IT Support Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting the organization’s IT infrastructure — including networks, systems, and end-user devices. The role ensures smooth connectivity, system reliability, and secure communication across all devices and users.
They also provide technical support, troubleshoot hardware/software/network issues, and assist users with IT-related problems.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Network Management
Design, configure, and maintain LAN, WAN, and WLAN infrastructure.
Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
Manage routers, switches, firewalls, and access points (e.g., Cisco, MikroTik, FortiGate, Ubiquiti).
Implement network security measures such as firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and ACLs.
Perform network upgrades, patches, and firmware updates.
Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and resolve bottlenecks.
2. IT Infrastructure & System Support
Manage and maintain servers (Windows/Linux) and storage systems.
Set up, configure, and manage user accounts, permissions, and email services (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365).
Support and monitor office devices: desktops, laptops, printers, IP phones, CCTV, biometric systems, and door access controls.
Handle software installation, updates, and licensing compliance.
Perform system backups and disaster recovery planning.
Manage UPS systems and power-related configurations.
3. Technical Support & Troubleshooting
Provide Tier 1–Tier 3 technical support to end users (onsite and remote).
Diagnose and fix hardware, software, and network-related issues.
Escalate unresolved issues to vendors or higher technical support teams when necessary.
Document support activities, issue resolutions, and update IT logs.
Assist in onboarding/offboarding employees — setting up new systems, emails, and access credentials.
4. Security & Compliance
Monitor network traffic for unusual activity and security breaches.
Configure and maintain firewall rules, intrusion detection systems, and endpoint security tools.
Ensure data protection policies and IT compliance are followed.
Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and audits.
5. Project Implementation & Coordination
Plan and deploy new IT infrastructure or expansion projects.
Collaborate with vendors, ISPs, and other IT teams for system integration and upgrades.
Participate in planning and execution of network maintenance windows and change controls.
Prepare project documentation and network topology diagrams.
6. Monitoring & Reporting
Use network monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG, SolarWinds, The Dude, Nagios) for uptime and performance tracking.
Generate periodic reports on bandwidth usage, uptime, incident logs, and system performance.
Suggest improvements for network efficiency and reliability.
