About the Role

The Free Press Journal is hiring an Education Desk Writer/Reporter to strengthen its digital education beat. The role involves tracking, reporting, and breaking news related to schools, colleges, examinations, education policies, and student-centric developments. This is a fast-paced newsroom position for journalists who thrive on timely, accurate, and impactful reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Track and report daily education news, including:

◦ Board exams, entrance tests, results, admit cards, counselling, and admissions.

◦ Notifications from education boards, universities, and regulatory bodies.

• Cover and break online education stories related to schools and colleges.

• Monitor and report viral stories and trends related to students, teachers, schools, and campuses.

• Report on crime and safety-related incidents involving schools, colleges, or students, with sensitivity and accuracy.

• Generate original story ideas relevant to students, parents, and educators.

• Ensure fast, accurate, and SEO-friendly content for digital platforms.

• Coordinate with editors to meet newsroom deadlines.

Eligibility & Skills

• 2+ years of experience covering education or related beats (preferred).

• Strong understanding of the education landscape in Mumbai and Maharashtra.

• Ability to identify trending and newsworthy education stories.

• Clear, accurate, and engaging writing skills.

• Strong news sense, attention to detail, and ethical reporting standards.

Work Environment

• This is a non-remote, on-site role based at FPJ’s newsroom.

• Salary will be commensurate with experience and industry standards.
