Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with prescribed dosages and safety protocols.
  • Operate and maintain complex nuclear imaging equipment, including gamma cameras and SPECT/CT systems.
  • Perform a variety of nuclear medicine procedures such as bone scans, thyroid scans, cardiac perfusion studies, and PET/CT imaging.
  • Ensure accurate patient positioning and optimal image quality through technical expertise and critical thinking.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, assessing for adverse reactions and providing immediate care when necessary.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to interpret imaging results and support clinical decision-making.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including procedure notes, radiation exposure logs, and equipment maintenance reports.
  • Uphold strict radiation safety standards and participate in ongoing safety training and audits.
  • Provide clear, empathetic communication to patients, explaining procedures, alleviating anxiety, and ensuring informed consent.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with biomedical engineering for timely repairs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid certification from the appropriate national regulatory body (e.g., AAMI, IAEA-compliant certification or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and precision in handling radioactive materials and imaging protocols.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to interpret imaging quality and respond to clinical variations.
  • Proven compassion and interpersonal skills for effectively communicating with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting nuclear imaging systems (e.g., gamma cameras, SPECT, PET/CT).
  • Knowledge of radiation safety principles, ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed.
  • Experience or training in patient preparation, IV access, and post-procedure monitoring (preferred).
