SALARY: Per SIFT CBA

CLASSIFICATION: Certified Licensed Occupational Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Special Education


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide students with appropriate therapy consistent with the student’s IEP in keeping with the physician’s prescription (when applicable) and/or evaluation results.

  • Maintain accurate student and caseload records and information, Medicaid logs and bill back data.

  • Participate in IEP’s.

  • Evaluate students for disabilities and provide appropriate written reports.

  • Provide liaison with staff, parents, and agencies.

  • Serve in a highly flexible manner dependent upon the stated needs and requests of the constituent school districts.

  • Keep local school administration informed as to the status of students on caseload.

  • Assist families of students on caseload through home call and contacts in understanding student’s occupational therapy needs in relation to educational goals.

  • Assist teacher and educational staff in acquiring special materials, equipment, and therapeutic techniques that will contribute to the education of the student(s).
  • QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must have full or be able to obtain temporary approval under Michigan Department of Education Rules (340.1792), Licensure, certification, or approval of supportive professional personnel.

  • Experience evaluating and treating individuals with neurological impairments is preferred.

  • Knowledge of typical and atypical developmental patterns is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Able to utilize appropriate demeanor, conduct, and grooming when working with clients and staff including proper telephone etiquette.

  • Must have conflict resolution skills.

  • Leadership skills to work effectively with staff, school administrators, and outside agencies in the delivery of special education services.

  • Ability to function in a total organizational context.

  • Ability to keep all student, parent and staff information confidential.

  • Ability to work in a site-based decision-making system that utilizes teams and collaborative decision-making processes.

  • Ability and/or willingness to learn and utilize basic keyboarding computer skills.

  • Willingness to receive additional training to improve job skills.

  • Must have dependable transportation.

  • Must have good references.

  • Must have a good attendance record.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
