of the Position:

PhD Position with the central aim to develop a research project called Bicameral Decision-making in the European Union. This project will be led by Pompeu Fabra University but it will be developed together with an international team of European scholars with extensive experience in the field of research.

Tasks: Research on Bicameral Politics in the European Union.

Summary of the Research Project:

The Bicameral Decision-making in the European Union project (EUDECIDE) aims to explore the decision-making processes in the EU by examining the interactions between the European Parliament (EP) and the Council of Ministers. It focuses on how these two critical institutions make decisions and negotiate and resolve policy conflicts, particularly in the context of growing political polarization and populism. The project seeks to address significant questions about how preferences, strategies, and institutional dynamics shape EU legislation.

EUDECIDE investigates key research questions such as:

1. How do different policy dimensions (e.g., left-right, core-periphery, GAL-TAN) influence the preferences of actors in both the EP and the Council?

2. To what extent and how do internal negotiations within each institution affect decision-making?

3. How does the negotiation process in one institution (e.g., the EP) impact the decision-making in the other (e.g., the Council)? Which are the main factors and mechanisms of such influence?

4. Which factors determine legislative policy outcomes in the EU decision-making process and Why?  institution tends to "win" in the legislative process?

5. To what extent are close to the interests of EU citizens the policy outcomes produced by the EU in terms of climate change or artificial intelligence?
