Responsibilities
+ Verify clinical lab test orders and address discrepancies with appropriate clinical staff.
+ Confirm patient information using two patient identifiers.
+ Determine the best method for obtaining a blood sample based on the specific patient.
+ Obtain blood specimens through venipunctures and fingersticks.
+ Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
+ Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintain daily tallies of collections performed.
+ Maintain quality results by following department procedures and complying with legal regulations.
