Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. This opportunity offers a contract position in a high-acuity Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) located in Monroe, NC. The unit operates with a 24-bed capacity, maintaining an average patient census between 21 and 23. Ideal candidates bring at least two years of strong pediatric ICU experience in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate comfort managing complex, critically ill patients. This role may be suitable for first-time travel nurses. Responsibilities include: Providing direct patient care for pediatric patients with diverse, critical diagnoses such as respiratory issues, trauma (including non-accidental trauma), diabetic ketoacidosis, seizures, neurosurgical conditions, renal failure, orthopedic and surgical needs, organ transplants, blood disorders, and complex medical cases Managing advanced monitoring devices and critical care equipment, including EPIC EMR, Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino intracranial pressure devices, Belmont Rapid Infuser, Alaris and Medfusion pumps Administering medications, vasoactive drips, sedation, analgesic drips, and performing bedside procedures in collaboration with healthcare providers Maintaining sterile technique in dressing changes, managing invasive lines (arterial, central venous), ventilators, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and Foley catheters Providing support and care while floating to Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU or other pediatric units as needed Qualifications & Desired Experience: Active RN licensure with BLS and PALSS certifications Minimum two years of pediatric ICU high-acuity care experience Familiarity with EPIC and critical care technology listed above Able to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU after interview discussions Scheduling & Support: No call responsibilities for travelers Schedule rotates every six weeks with manager approval for time off Full unit support including CNA, unit secretary, phlebotomy, IV team, respiratory therapists, intensivists, residents, and advanced practice providers available 24/7 Orientation consists of two days of departmental training plus neonatal orientation if applicable Additional Details: Scrub color: Navy Free parking Culture focuses on teamwork, trust, accountability, respect, and compassionate hard work About Monroe, NC: Monroe is a growing community with a blend of small-town charm and proximity to larger metropolitan areas.
