About Omega Solutions and NowData
Omega Solutions is a UK-based refrigeration consultancy and engineering business. Alongside our engineering work, we build NowData , a software and IoT platform that helps organisations monitor commercial refrigeration systems, visualise performance, and respond to alarms and operational issues quickly.
We build physical devices that collect data from refrigeration controllers, and we provide a cloud platform that stores, processes, and visualises that data in real time.
The role
This role is mainly focused on platform and DevOps work. You will spend most of your time on deployments, uptime, monitoring, CI/CD, and improving infrastructure. You will also support backend tasks when needed, especially where they relate to environments, scaling, performance, and debugging production issues.
We are a small startup team, and this role is important for keeping the platform reliable for our customers. You will have real ownership over how systems are deployed, monitored, and supported in production. When something goes wrong, you will help investigate the issue, fix it, and improve the system so it is more reliable in the future.
You will work closely with the rest of the engineering team and help shape how services are built so they are easier to run and maintain. Not everything is fully finished or perfectly documented yet, and that is expected. We are looking for someone who is comfortable improving systems over time and taking responsibility for reliability.
This is a collaborative role where your work will have a clear and direct impact on the product and the business.
What you will do
Own and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
Manage deployments for staging and production, across multiple environments and configurations.
Monitor uptime, performance, and errors; improve alerting and reduce noise.
Maintain Docker and Docker Compose workflows for local development and deployments.
Maintain and improve AWS setup where relevant (S3, EC2, IAM, plus build/deploy tooling).
Manage database operational needs: migrations, backups, performance basics (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis).
Write and maintain documentation so the team can operate confidently.
Must-have experience
Strong Docker and Docker Compose experience.
CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, or similar).
Solid AWS fundamentals, especially S3, EC2, IAM.
Linux/Unix administration confidence (logs, networking basics, processes, permissions).
Familiarity with Node, Python and Go.
Monitoring and alerting experience (knows what actionable alerts look like).
Database familiarity: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis.
GitHub workflows (PRs, reviews, conventional commit habits preferred).
Strong written and spoken English, because you will collaborate daily with a UK-based team.
Nice-to-have experience (not required)
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi).
Kubernetes or container orchestration.
MQTT brokers.
Security best practices (secrets management, least-privilege IAM, TLS hygiene).
Cost optimisation and performance tuning.
