EL1 / APS6 Policy & Program Officers – Aged Care & Health Policy
Federal Government | Sydney‑based Roles | Long‑term Contracts

We are supporting several government organisations to recruit experienced Policy and Program Officers across EL1 and APS6 levels. These positions are based in Sydney and contribute to national work across aged care, health policy, regulatory functions, resource development and broader system improvement.

These opportunities suit candidates with strong policy, coordination, governance, secretariat and stakeholder engagement skills who thrive in complex, fast‑paced environments.

About the opportunities

You will support a range of national initiatives across aged care and health, including policy development, program coordination, analysis, resource development and support for executive decision‑making.
Depending on the team, responsibilities may include:

  • Assessing information and preparing advice to support operational and legislative decision‑making.
  • Developing written materials such as guidelines, educational resources, briefs, reports and technical documentation.
  • Supporting policy development, interpretation of legislation and refinement of procedures.
  • Preparing high‑quality papers for committees, executives and senior stakeholders.
  • Providing secretariat support to committees and working groups.
  • Managing procurement and contract activities, including financial administration and monitoring.
  • Coordinating activities across teams and ensuring work progresses to required timeframes.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders across government and the broader sector.

Key responsibilities

  • Support policy and program activities, including analysis, coordination and preparation of documentation.
  • Provide secretariat support including agendas, papers, minutes and meeting coordination.
  • Analyse information, data and evidence to inform advice and recommendations.
  • Prepare clear, high‑quality written material for a range of audiences.
  • Manage procurement and contract processes, including financial oversight.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of resources for internal and external use.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to organisation‑wide planning, reporting and governance activities.

About you

You will bring a combination of the following:

  • Experience at APS6 or EL1 level (or equivalent) in policy, program, governance or regulatory roles.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare high‑quality papers and technical documents.
  • Strong coordination and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience in procurement, contract management and financial administration.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • Knowledge of government processes, aged care, health policy or regulatory environments (desirable).
  • Experience developing resources or guidance materials (advantageous).
  • Familiarity with financial or administrative systems (advantageous).

Casual Loading 

Please note for all Australian based contract and temporary roles only, the pay rate is inclusive of mandatory 25% casual loading. This excludes permanent and fixed term roles.
