Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

The Avgousti lab is looking for motivated and enthusiastic post-docs interested in developing independent research ideas combining chromatin biology and molecular virology. Candidates should have a record of productive research (at least one first-author publication), with knowledge and experience in biochemistry or molecular biology. Virology or chromatin experience is not required but would be valued. Interested candidates should submit a CV and include past research accomplishments in a cover letter and areas of interest for postdoctoral work.

The Avgousti lab is focused on the mechanisms by which viruses hijack chromatin. Due to the major advancement in sequencing technologies and the expansion of the field of epigenetics, exploiting viruses to investigate chromatin biology has enormous potential. Our goal is to advance basic understanding of viral manipulation of chromatin and uncover new aspects of chromatin biology and virus infection to identify new therapeutic targets and develop innovative strategies to combat disease. These positions present exceptional opportunities to develop research programs in the overarching field of epigenetics or virology, allowing successful candidates a clear pathway to independence. More information can be found online at avgoustilab.org .
Specific research areas include but are not limited to:

- Adenovirus manipulation of host chromatin and mechanisms of immune evasion through chromatin

- Chromatin and nuclear perturbation caused by human cytomegalovirus and strategies for preventing virus propagation

- Investigating chromatin as a structural barrier to herpesvirus egress from the nucleus

- Drug discovery and development for antiviral or anticancer therapies

This position is ideal for an individual with a strong interest in basic mechanistic discovery and translation to therapy. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center are an optimal environment for career growth.
