Job Title: PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)

Location: Remote
Job Type: Contract

Job Description:

• Primary: PostgreSQL
• Secondary: Oracle & MS SQL Server
• Cloud: AWS (RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, SQL Server on RDS)

Key Responsibilities:

Database Reliability & Performance

• Own PostgreSQL availability, performance, and capacity; drive proactive tuning and optimization.
• Support core operations on Oracle and MS SQL Server (backups, indexing, basic tuning, user/security management).

High Availability & DR

• Design and maintain HA/replication and failover for PostgreSQL (on-prem & AWS).
• Define and test backup/restore and disaster recovery runbooks (including RDS/Aurora snapshots and PITR).

Cloud Operations (AWS)

• Administer RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL (parameter groups, maintenance windows, read replicas, monitoring).
• Implement secure access and encryption using VPC, Security Groups, IAM, KMS; optimize cost and scaling.

Security & Compliance

• Enforce least-privilege access, patching cadence, encryption in transit/at rest, and auditing.
• Align database controls with organizational policies and audit requirements.

Automation & Observability

• Automate routine DBA tasks (Shell/Python/SQL) and establish robust monitoring/alerting.
• Produce concise health dashboards and executive reports on availability, performance, and growth.

Documentation & Incident Response

• Maintain playbooks for HA/DR, patching, and incident handling; drive RCA and remediation after incidents.

Required Competencies

• PostgreSQL (primary): administration, performance tuning, replication/HA, backup & recovery, PITR.
• Oracle & MS SQL Server (secondary): operational support (backups, users/roles, indexing, basic performance).
• AWS Cloud: RDS/Aurora administration, CloudWatch/Performance Insights, IAM/KMS/VPC, snapshots/restore.
• Scripting & OS: SQL/PLpgSQL, Shell/Python, Linux fundamentals; strong troubleshooting and stakeholder communication.
