Job Title: : Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer (Reliability and Architecture)

Role: PostgreSQL Admin – L3

Location : PAN INDIA

Responsibilities:

Leads PostgreSQL architecture and reliability. The role spans HA and DR design, partitioning and data lifecycle for large datasets, deep performance work, autovacuum and bloat strategy, observability and SLOs, automation and CI for database changes, security and compliance, capacity and cost planning, and mentoring of the DBA team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design multi-region HA and DR with clear RPO and RTO.

• Plan partitioning, archiving, and retention strategies.

• Optimize autovacuum, checkpoints, and background writer.

• Solve complex locking and contention patterns.

• Build baselines and dashboards that reflect user impact.

• Automate builds, checks, and upgrades via CI.

• Govern schema and release standards through reviews.

• Implement encryption, auditing, and compliance controls.

• Forecast capacity and manage cost in cloud setups.

• Coach DBAs and partner tightly with engineering.

Skill Requirements:

• 7-12 years with PostgreSQL at scale.

• Deep knowledge of MVCC and storage internals.

• Replication design and conflict handling expertise.

• Advanced indexing, partitioning, and query tuning.

• Linux, filesystems, and kernel settings for databases.

• Scripting and orchestration for fleet operations.

• Observability design with meaningful SLOs.

• Strong communication and leadership.

Must Have skills:

• HA and DR architecture.
• Advanced PL/pgSQL and performance tuning.
• Clear runbooks and standards.
• Incident leadership and RCA discipline.
• Capacity and cost planning.
• Team mentoring skills
• Certification required: EDB PostgreSQL Associate or Professional, Crunchy Certified, or equivalent.
• Understanding of ITIL processes

Good to have skills:

• Kubernetes or containerized Postgres.

• AWS RDS or Azure Database for PostgreSQL.

• Logical decoding and CDC experience.

• Data masking and audit strategy.
