Renewable electricity is central to the energy transition, and TotalEnergies is making significant investments in solar, wind, and battery storage to become one of the world’s top five renewable power producers by 2030.

The US electricity markets are a strategic priority for both the Company and its Gas, Renewables & Power (GRP) branch, complementing its established gas and commodities businesses. Their complexity demands deep expertise in US power markets, as well as strong capabilities in risk management, position management, and compliance.

TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America (TGPNA), the Company’s US trading affiliate within GRP, supports the US energy portfolio through marketing and trading, transportation, storage, export, and related commercial activities. Its portfolio spans natural gas, natural gas liquids, power, and environmental products—key components of TotalEnergies’ global integrated strategy.

The US Trading Origination Team, part of the Trading Energy Management (TEM) business unit, operates in a rapidly evolving and competitive market. The team plays a critical role in developing and executing the TEM strategy in the US and advancing TotalEnergies’ ambition to be a multi‑energy company focused on the energies of the future.

Activités

The Power Originator supports the US Power Trading Origination Strategy by identifying, developing, and executing short‑ and long‑term power transactions of varying complexity. The role focuses on the purchase and sale of energy, capacity, and renewable products, with an emphasis on customized solutions for internal and external customers. The Power Originator will also procure and negotiate contracts for flexible assets—such as batteries, CCGTs, and demand‑response resources—to balance portfolio exposures. Strong expertise in creating value from battery projects in ERCOT, CAISO, and PJM is essential.

The position works closely with TotalEnergies’ Flexible Power and Renewable Development teams and requires a strong understanding of the Company’s broader US energy strategy. The ideal candidate has experience working with large corporate customers and can structure tailored solutions, model value drivers, and communicate technical concepts effectively. Responsibilities include engaging with IPPs, renewable producers, energy funds, LSEs, and generation developers to advance the Company’s commercial objectives. A solid grasp of power fundamentals, ISO rules and operations, and working knowledge of US gas infrastructure and marketing are critical.

The role covers the Company’s core operating regions and involves direct interaction with internal and external stakeholders from deal origination through contract execution. The Power Originator must coordinate closely with trading desks and key support functions—including credit, finance, legal, and management at both local and global levels—to bring transactions to completion.

Financial Impact: The Power Originator contributes, alongside the Head of Power Origination US, to delivering the US Global Origination budget of $60M per year and supporting approximately $1B in annual business flows and infrastructure commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of TGPNA’s trading portfolio, including asset positions, contractual arrangements, product flows, key counterparties, market dynamics, risk management practices, optimization strategies, and broader company growth objectives.
  • Partner with the VP of Power Origination to originate, structure, negotiate, and execute power transactions that support the Company’s Power growth strategy.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities with renewable developers, generation owners, and storage developers to negotiate and close supply deals aligned with strategic procurement targets.
  • Work with load‑serving entities, commercial and industrial customers to design energy and risk‑management products that meet their operational and renewable‑energy needs.
  • Leverage existing relationships with data center and industrial customers to expand commercial opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Origination Team to evaluate revenue and profitability potential for structured transactions and to identify product structures that optimize value from existing power assets and portfolios.
  • Track customers, sales opportunities, and market developments to strengthen the Origination Team’s market intelligence and commercial positioning.
  • Support the development, testing, and maintenance of trading tools and models used for counterparty deals, structured transactions, and long‑term analysis.
  • Design and develop customized power product offerings for internal portfolio needs and select external customers.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, maintaining strong coordination with risk control, finance, HR, compliance, legal, and other support functions.
  • Represent TotalEnergies at conferences and industry events to reinforce the Company’s presence and leadership in the US power market.
  • Coordinate closely with TGPNA and GRP (Europe) front‑office and support teams to identify portfolio risks and opportunities, share tools and best practices, and streamline workflows.

    The role requires full compliance with the Company and Group Code of Conduct, Compliance Manual, and all applicable policies and procedures. The jobholder is responsible for originating projects and deals by identifying, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and executing a wide range of power‑related transactions. They must manage and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with a focus on expanding the portfolio of power customers. The position also involves proposing profitable or cost‑saving transactions to optimize the asset portfolio and create value for the Group. The jobholder will interface with various desks to ensure best practices are upheld and will coordinate with the front office and all relevant support functions to ensure the smooth implementation and operation of contracts originated by the Power Origination desk. Additionally, the role requires maintaining current knowledge of financial market regulations in the markets in which the Company operates.

    Education/Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience, including at least five years in a commercial role within the energy commodity sector.
  • Experience in trading, marketing, operations, and risk management within the wholesale electricity market.
  • Strong knowledge of US electricity markets, with emphasis on ERCOT, PJM, and/or CAISO.
  • Demonstrated sales skills and a proven ability to develop and strengthen relationships with power‑market counterparties.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Creative, highly proactive, and capable of working independently to deliver results.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or French is considered an asset.
