The Role

The Capacity Building team is seeking a practicum student to support the planning and coordination of various educational programming activities including live and virtual professional development events. The key responsibility will be to support the team with projects associated with PHO’s Strategic Direction #3 which seeks to advance public health and health workforce capacity and knowledge to improve population health outcomes. More specifically, the student will help a team comprised of: Education Specialists, Events Specialists, an Events and Production Coordinator and a Lead, Education Programming.

Projects Will Focus On

  • Supporting career-long learning: Building on PHO’s strength as a provider of applied professional development and educational offerings that align with learning needs across different stages of the career journey.
  • Growing experiential learning: Advancing the development of work-based and hands-on-learning opportunities as well as non-traditional learning methods, including expanded support for student placements and applied leader development in collaboration with academic partners.
  • Making connections: Strengthening collaborations and partnerships to help connect the workforce to the learning and professional development opportunities best suited to their needs.

Suggested placement date: May to August 2026

Please Note

  • This position is only open to students who are currently enrolled in an academic program where the completion of a practicum placement is required.
  • This position is only open to students currently residing in Ontario and attending a Canadian academic institution. Preference will be given to students enrolled in Ontario-based academic institutions.
  • This is a paid placement.

Educational Objectives

  • Apply project management and evaluation skills to support the planning and execution of educational programming and professional development offerings.
  • Analyze and assess evaluation findings and collaboratively develop reports to inform strategic planning.
  • Contribute to the development of hands-on learning experiences and educational programming offered by PHO.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Proposed Deliverables At The End Of The Placement

  • Tools/resources that support program planning and evaluation.
  • Presentations summarizing evaluation findings from SD3 projects.

Required Education And Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program requiring an experiential learning/practicum component.
  • Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in, and familiarity with, evaluation projects, program planning, educational programming, and/or events hosting.
  • Attention to detail and strong English communication skills (both written and verbal) are required.
  • Computer proficiency including O365 products (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Strong collaboration skills and interest in working with and across different teams.

Duration: Student (Fixed Term), 3 month(s)

Hours of Work: Full time, 36.25 hours per week

Compensation Range: $700.00 - $725.00
