Job Purpose: As a Principal Cloud Architect within the Enterprise Architecture team, you will address the crucial need for a defined multi-datacentre (Multi-DC) and hybrid cloud strategy. This role is paramount for establishing robust cloud abstraction layers, architecting advanced solutions like Kubernetes stretch clusters, and ensuring a scalable and resilient OSS deployment architecture. Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding our cloud transformation, optimizing infrastructure costs, and enabling the rapid, secure, and reliable deployment of our critical OSS products across diverse cloud environments.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Multi-DC & Hybrid Cloud Strategy
- Define and evolve the enterprise-wide multi-datacentre and hybrid cloud architectural strategy, aligning with business continuity, disaster recovery, and data locality requirements.
- Develop architectural patterns and guidelines for deploying and managing OSS applications across public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises environments.
- Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies, platforms, and services that best fit our architectural vision and operational needs.
Cloud Abstraction & Kubernetes Excellence
- Design and promote cloud abstraction layers to ensure application portability and reduce vendor lock-in.
- Lead the architecture of advanced Kubernetes deployments, including considerations for stretch clusters, multi-cluster management, and highly available control planes.
- Ensure Kubernetes infrastructure is optimized for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency for OSS workloads.
Scalable OSS Deployment Architecture
- Architect highly scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant deployment models for our OSS product portfolio across various cloud footprints.
- Define patterns for automated provisioning, configuration management, and infrastructure as code (IaC) within cloud environments.
- Ensure architectural designs meet stringent non-functional requirements such as security, compliance, observability, and cost efficiency.
Technical Leadership & Governance
- Provide senior technical leadership and guidance to product teams, engineering, and operations on cloud best practices, architectural patterns, and strategic technology choices.
- Participate in architectural review boards, ensuring cloud designs align with enterprise standards and strategic objectives.
- Conduct proof-of-concepts (POCs) for new cloud technologies and evaluate their suitability for our ecosystem.
Cost Optimization & Operational Efficiency
- Design architectures that inherently optimize cloud infrastructure costs without compromising performance or reliability.
- Work with operations teams to define operational models and tools for managing cloud deployments at scale.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience and Expertise
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise architecture, with at least 5 years dedicated to cloud architecture in complex, large-scale environments .
- Proven track record of designing and implementing multi-datacentre and hybrid cloud strategies.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes and its ecosystem, including advanced deployment patterns (e.g., stretch clusters, federation).
- Strong background in architecting scalable and resilient distributed systems for critical applications like OSS.
Technical Skills:
- Hands‑on expertise with at least one major public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) : including deploying workloads, designing reference architectures, provisioning cloud services, implementing security controls, and troubleshooting real-time issues; plus, working knowledge of the other major cloud platforms.
- Hands-on Experience with one or more programming languages : Java(Spring Boot), Python and Go-Lang ..etc
- Practical experience configuring and operating cloud networking components: designing and implementing VPCs/VNets, setting up site-to-site VPNs, provisioning Direct Connect/ExpressRoute, configuring routing tables, security groups/NSGs, NACLs, WAF policies, and resolving connectivity issues across hybrid networks.
- Strong containerization and orchestration hands-on experience : building Docker images, writing Docker files, optimizing container performance, deploying, and managing Kubernetes clusters, creating Helm charts, defining deployments/stateful sets/ingress, and operating K8s in production.
- Extensive hands-on work with Infrastructure as Code : writing and maintaining Terraform modules, CloudFormation templates, and Ansible playbooks; automating infrastructure provisioning; integrating IaC pipelines with CI/CD; and implementing policy-as-code (OPA, Sentinel).
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native observability stacks : configuring Prometheus/Grafana dashboards, setting up log pipelines (ELK/EFK/OpenSearch), implementing distributed tracing with Open Telemetry/Jaeger, and tuning alerts for production systems.
- Practical implementation of modern CI/CD pipelines : designing and managing pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps; automating build/test/deploy workflows; integrating security scans; and enabling automated rollbacks/blue green/canary deployments.
- Strong familiarity with Virtualisation platforms: administering VMware vSphere clusters, creating, and managing VMs/templates, performing migrations, and working with OpenStack components (Nova, Neutron, Cinder) for private cloud environments.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities to design complex cloud architectures and resolve infrastructure challenges.
- Strong ability to balance architectural ideals with practical implementation constraints and business needs.
Collaboration & Communication
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex cloud strategies and technical designs to diverse audiences (engineers, leadership, non-technical stakeholders).
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with product teams, engineering, operations, and security.
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Additional Skills
- Certifications from major cloud providers (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional).
- Experience with serverless architectures or edge computing.
- Knowledge of telecom-specific cloud deployments or network function virtualization (NFV) in cloud.
- Contributions to open-source cloud-native projects.
