Principal Data Engineer

Role Summary:

The Principal Data Engineer provides technical leadership and strategic direction for enterprise data engineering initiatives. This role combines hands-on technical expertise , architectural ownership, and people leadership to ensure scalable, secure, and well-governed data platforms across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and lead enterprise data architecture and engineering standards
• Oversee the design, development, and quality assurance of critical data pipelines
• Provide hands-on guidance for complex database designs, SQL frameworks, and performance optimization
• Mentor senior engineers and engineering managers
• Lead cross-functional initiatives spanning analytics, governance, security, and platform teams
• Ensure data systems meet enterprise requirements for scalability, reliability, cost efficiency, and compliance
• Drive adoption of modern data architectures (Lakehouse, data contracts, self-service analytics)
• Influence roadmap planning and long-term platform strategy

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years designing and delivering cloud-based data solutions
• 3+ years leading or managing data engineering teams

Deep expertise in enterprise database architecture, including:

• Large-scale relational and analytical data models
• SQL framework standardization
• Performance tuning and cost optimization
• Strong experience with cloud-native data services and platforms
• Proven leadership across distributed or global teams

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with enterprise governance, data privacy, and regulatory compliance (SOX, retention, data sensitivity)
• Familiarity with modern data warehousing and Lakehouse architectures
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
