About ClaimAngel
ClaimAngel is a fast-growing fintech startup revolutionizing legal funding for personal injury claimants. We provide financial solutions that help people access the justice they deserve while working with law firms and funders across the country. Our three-sided internet marketplace—the first of its kind—launched in April 2023 and has grown steadily since. We're a small, focused team that moves fast and ships real products.

*The Role *
We're looking for a principal engineer who can independently design and execute large new components of our platform, and refactor existing ones as we scale. You'll be working primarily on the back end, in a serverless AWS environment with TypeScript lambdas and a high-tempo CI/CD pipeline.

This is a role for someone who can take a business problem, figure out the right technical approach, and build it—without needing to be managed closely. You'll collaborate with a team of 5 developers who built this marketplace from scratch, and you'll have significant influence over our architecture and technical direction.

What We're Building
Our core platform at consists of four portals and a design-forward public-facing web site:

Claimant-facing tools — mobile-first experience for people seeking funding Law firm tools — mixed desktop/mobile for attorneys managing cases Funder dashboards — desktop-heavy tools for business partners making and managing investments.

Internal operations tools — for our team to run the business Public-facing web site — a design-forward site with landing pages, explainer videos, and SEO-oriented content aimed at becoming a go-to resource for the litigation finance industry

What You'll Do
Design and build major new platform components end-to-end Refactor and improve existing systems as requirements evolve Own architectural decisions for your areas of the codebase Write serverless TypeScript lambdas that are clean, testable, and performant Work within our high-tempo CI/CD environment—small commits, frequent deploys Configure and optimize AWS services with attention to security, performance, scalability, and cost Collaborate with the team on technical direction while operating with high autonomy Mentor other engineers and raise the bar on engineering quality.

What We're Looking For
Required:

Deep experience with serverless architectures on AWS (Lambda, CloudFormation, API Gateway, etc.) Strong TypeScript/JavaScript skills Proven ability to design and execute complex software projects independently Experience with high-frequency deployment workflows and CI/CD best practices Excellent written and verbal communication skills Comfort operating with minimal oversight

Our Stack:

AWS serverless (Lambda, TypeScript) DynamoDB AppSync / GraphQL Kinesis OpenSearch Cognito Snowflake ReactJS / TailwindUI / ShadCN (front-end) Vercel

AI Tools:

We've standardized on Claude Code across the team, with a shared set of rules, agents, skills, and MCPs that we use heavily in our daily workflow. AI-assisted development is central to how we work—not an afterthought or occasional convenience. We'll discuss these tools during the interview process, and we're looking for someone who's been curious enough to explore them.

What Success Looks Like
You operate with high agency and take ownership of significant parts of our platform. You see what needs to be built or fixed and you drive it forward—keeping the team informed but not waiting for permission. You make our architecture better, our deployments smoother, and our codebase easier to work in.

How We Work
We're fully remote. None of us live in the same city, so we rely on video calls, chat, GitHub, Vercel, Linear, and Figma to collaborate. That said, we have a strong preference for candidates in the central or eastern Americas—ideally within an hour or two of US Eastern time—so we can maximize overlapping working hours.
