Principal Geostructural Engineer
Location: New York, NY (Fashion District)
Type of Employment: Full-time
We are actively seeking an experienced Principal Geostructural Engineer to join our expanding team in New York City. This role is crucial for a dedicated professional who is eager to lead intricate engineering projects covering investigations, designs, rehabilitations, and forensic analyses.
Working on a variety of infrastructure and structural projects, you will utilize your expertise in both geotechnical and structural engineering to deliver durable, secure, and efficient solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
As a technical leader, your key responsibilities will include:
Design & Analysis:
Oversee the design and assessment of structural systems such as foundations, retaining walls, ground improvement methods, and excavation support systems.
Geotechnical Investigation:
Analyze soil behavior, including settlement, slope stability, soil dynamics, and groundwater flow/seepage.
Forensic & Rehabilitation Engineering:
Evaluate distressed or failed structures and create repair and retrofit strategies for existing infrastructure like dams, embankments, tunnels, and pavements.
Construction Support:
Offer technical guidance during construction, including field observations, issue resolution, and contractor coordination.
Client Services & Reporting:
Prepare top-quality technical reports, proposals, budgets, and scopes of work. Present findings to clients and manage communication throughout projects.
Project Leadership:
Manage project components or entire projects independently, balancing technical excellence with schedule and budget oversight.
Team Development:
Mentor junior engineers and ensure quality control on deliverables. Foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Litigation Support:
Participate in expert investigations, technical reporting, and support for insurance claims or legal proceedings when necessary.
Qualifications
Education:
MS or Ph.D. in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
Licensure:
Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
Experience:
At least 6 years in roles related to geotechnical, structural, or civil engineering with proven experience in field and design settings.
Technical Proficiency:
Experience with software such as:
Geotechnical GEOSLOPE, Slide, Plaxis, LPILE, Settle3D, DeepEX, CIVILTech
Structural ETABS, SAP, RISA
Communication:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to independently craft high-quality reports and deliverables.
Leadership & Engagement:
Active involvement in professional societies (e.g., ASCE) with a track record of speaking engagements, publications, or committee work preferred.
Logistics:
Willingness to travel, including to remote project sites. Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
