Job Description

Job Purpose:

To lead and execute the design and engineering of marine water intake and outfall systems for desalination plants,, ensuring compliance with environmental, hydraulic, and structural standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptual & Detailed DesignDevelop conceptual layouts and detailed designs for seawater intake and outfall systems (including pipelines, headworks, diffusers, screens, and pump houses).Perform hydraulic design and modelling (steady and unsteady flow, wave-current interaction, sediment transport, etc.).Select appropriate intake and diffuser configurations to ensure adequate dilution and minimize environmental impact
  • Engineering Calculations & AnalysisCarry out hydrodynamic, structural, and geotechnical analyses for pipelines and offshore structures.Prepare design calculations, technical reports, and design basis documents.Use relevant design codes and standards (API, BS, DNV, ASCE, etc.).
  • Site & Survey CoordinationCoordinate with marine survey teams for bathymetric, geotechnical, and environmental data collection.Review site investigation results to determine design parameters for alignment and installation.
  • Construction & Installation SupportPrepare construction drawings, method statements, and material specifications.Support construction teams during offshore installation, trenching, and pipeline laying activities.Review contractor submissions and resolve technical issues during execution.
  • Project CoordinationInterface with multidisciplinary teams (civil, mechanical, environmental, and process).Ensure designs meet client requirements, budget constraints, and project timelines.
  • Qualifications:

  • Education:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Coastal, Ocean, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Experience:5–15 years (depending on level) of experience in marine intake/outfall or coastal engineering projects.Proven experience with desalination, thermal power, or wastewater outfall systems is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:

  • Hydraulic modelling (e.g., MIKE 21, Delft3D, HEC-RAS, ANSYS Fluent).
  • Structural analysis tools (STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, PLAXIS).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS applications.
  • Knowledge of international design standards (e.g., BS 6349, ASCE 7, DNV-GL, PIANC).
  • Familiarity with marine geotechnical design, pipeline stability, and trench backfilling methods.
  • Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Team-oriented with ability to coordinate across disciplines.
  • Attention to detail and quality control.
