Position Overview:
We are an early-stage, fast-growing, turnkey interior design startup. We are looking for a Design Lead who can operate at the intersection of design, sales, execution, people, and revenue . This role requires a balance of creative design expertise and business acumen, ensuring both exceptional client satisfaction and successful project delivery.
Someone in this role will be crucial in driving business growth by delivering exceptional designs, building client relationships, and promoting our design services. As a key role in our start-up team, the opportunity promises immense growth potential and learning opportunities for the right candidate.

Location: Delhi-NCR (Mode of work: In Office/Hybrid)
About the Job:
Design Leadership & Execution Ownership
- Lead end-to-end residential interior projects from design conception through execution and final handover, with full ownership of quality, timelines, and commercial outcomes.
- Take primary responsibility for projects originating from their own client engagements, ensuring design intent, profitability, execution standards, and client expectations are met without dilution.
- Provide design and execution oversight across projects handled by junior designers, reviewing key deliverables at critical stages to maintain consistency, technical accuracy, and adherence to approved budgets.
- Guide and mentor junior designers through design development, detailing, material selection, and execution coordination, stepping in where required to resolve design or site-level challenges.
- Review and approve layouts, 3D visualizations, working drawings, material specifications, and BOQs prior to client presentation or site execution.
- Act as the escalation point for complex design, execution, or client issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on project outcomes.
- Maintain a holistic view of all ongoing projects, proactively identifying risks related to feasibility, coordination, timelines, or quality and addressing them before they escalate.
- Balance hands-on project leadership with team oversight responsibilities to ensure both personal project success and overall studio performance.
Client Engagement & Sales
- Lead client meetings from first interaction to final sign-off.
- Present design concepts, costings, and execution strategies confidently to close projects.
- Own pricing discussions, scope definitions, and commercial negotiations.
- Handle objections related to budget, timelines, and scope with clarity and authority.
- Be accountable for conversion ratios, project values, and client satisfaction.
Process, Team & Vendor Leadership
- Build, document, and continuously refine core operating processes across lead intake and qualification, design development and approvals, costing and BOQ standards, vendor coordination, site execution, and project handover to improve consistency, predictability, and scalability.
- Establish and enforce internal quality benchmarks for design outputs, presentations, documentation, and on-site execution, reducing dependency on individuals and minimizing rework.
- Lead, mentor, and manage junior and mid-level designers by setting clear expectations, reviewing output at defined stages, and driving structured capability development rather than reactive firefighting.
- Identify skill gaps within the team and implement improvement plans to raise overall design, technical, and execution standards.
- Identify, evaluate, onboard, and manage execution partners and vendors across trades, defining quality expectations, commercial terms, timelines, and accountability structures.
- Act as the escalation point for team or vendor-related issues, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and commercial outcomes.
- Continuously improve vendor reliability, cost efficiency, and working relationships through performance reviews and process discipline.
Strategic Contribution (Stepping into the Founder’s shoes)
- Act as a thought partner to the founder on - Pricing strategies & margin optimization, Team structure & role definitions, Service offerings & positioning
- Design standards and brand direction
- Bring market intelligence on materials, trends, pricing shifts, and execution innovations.
- Think beyond “today’s project” and contribute to building a scalable design business .
What you must get to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
- 7–10 years of hands-on experience in residential interior design with real site execution exposure .
- Proven ability to close design projects and handle commercial conversations.
- Strong understanding of BOQs, costing, margins, and execution realities in India.
- Deep material, joinery, and finish knowledge — not surface-level aesthetics.
- Experience mentoring or leading design teams.
- High ownership mindset — comfort with ambiguity, decision-making, and accountability.
- Excellent communication skills with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp / 3ds Max / Revit, V-Ray / Corona, and presentation tools.
- A client-first mindset with problem-solving ability.
