Principal Systems Development Engineer

What you’ll achieve
As a Principal Systems Development Engineer, you will be responsible for advanced root‑cause analysis, performance optimization, configuration tuning, and long‑term stability improvements. You will work with Customer Engineering on escalations to address critical customer issues by: Collaborating with core engineering teams, Customer Support, Incident Management, and customers to stabilize and optimize enterprise environments. Performing root cause analysis and kernel-level debugging on supported enterprise operating systems running on Dell hardware. Applying your expertise in computer architecture and OS internals to resolve complex issues and improve system resilience. Driving impact beyond technical problem-solving by shaping strategic initiatives that improve efficiency, resilience, and operational excellence.
You will:
Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware/software issues using advanced tools and methodologies.
Conduct detailed RCA and provide actionable insights to internal and external stakeholders.
Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams to drive collaborative problem-solving.
Design and implement intelligent automation solutions, leveraging AI and emerging agentic technologies to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the organization.

Essential Requirements
Experience: 5+ years in software/hardware engineering (or equivalent) with deep expertise in one or more of the following: Object storage, NAS (Network Attached Storage), Linux/BSD operating systems, Networking and protocol stacks (SMB, NFS, etc.),Filesystems, Analytics, observability, and data science
Work Model: Onsite, 5 days a week.
Schedule: Weekend work on a rotational basis (comp days provided), occasional early/late shifts, and overtime as needed.
Desirable Requirements
Proficiency in Java, C, Python, and scripting
Proven experience in developing automation frameworks and applying AI/agentic tools to drive operational efficiency and scalability
