Process Data Scientist (m/w/d)

On behalf of our client, Hoffmann-La Roche, we are seeking a motivated individual for a temporary role as Process Data Scientist. Location: Basel. Start Date: ASAP (latest possible: ). Duration: 2 years (extension possible). Workload: 80% - 100%. Home Office: Ideally not more than 50%.

Background

We are looking for a dedicated Junior Process Data Scientist to join our Drug Substance Manufacturing unit in Basel. You will focus on the core technical aspects of Multivariate Data Analysis (MVDA): developing, validating, and maintaining robust models that contribute to our quality assurance. The perfect candidate has a solid background in MVDA and a high-level understanding of biopharma processes. This role is ideal for someone in the early stages of their career.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Model Development Design and build MVDA models for Drug Substance manufacturing processes.
• Responsible for the end-to-end technical creation of the model structure.
• Data Pre-processing & Curation Apply rigorous data modeling techniques.
• Ensure raw process data is correctly pre-processed to prevent false positive/false negative results.
• Validation & Maintenance Execute formal validation protocols to demonstrate model suitability.
• Maintain the lifecycle of these models, ensuring accuracy over time as process baselines evolve.

Must Haves

• Ideally a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemometrics, Statistics, or Biotechnology. Alternatively, a Bachelor's or Master's degree combined with relevant work experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience in statistics
• First professional/industry experiences
• English and German at B2/C1 level

Nice to Haves

• Familiarity with Open-DCP or similar modeling frameworks (e.g., SIMCA)
• Knowledge of R programming language for statistical computing
• Experience with Aveva PI System Explorer (OSIsoft) for data retrieval
