The Opportunity

The Category Manager - Packaging, Consumables will provide expertise to support store trading, production, operations and supply chains across Woolworths, while optimising value from our suppliers. You will support the Portfolio team to implement agreed priorities including preparing, running and evaluating tender activities, collaborating with stakeholders, negotiation planning, developing contract schedules and preparing documentation required for stakeholder approvals.

In this 12 month fixed-term contract position, you will balance the business objectives, mitigate risk, and work closely with various parts of the business including Human Rights, Sustainability, Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance teams, Group Replenishment, Supply Chain and Store Operations for the best fit approach adhering to procurement policies. The category has depth and breadth and encompasses all our leading brand banners

What you’ll do

  • Both lead and support the execution of sourcing strategies (RFx, negotiation, selection, and award) for key categories.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and develop a comprehensive understanding of category market influences.
  • Manage end-to-end contract lifecycle, including development, execution, central repository management, and timely execution.
  • Drive simultaneous projects and support various cross-functional initiatives.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders across multiple business units (e.g. Human Rights, Sustainability, Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance teams, Group Replenishment and Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, IT).
  • Conduct robust data analysis to identify fact-driven opportunities, undertake risk analyses, and leverage enterprise AI tools for optimisation.

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Procurement role with a focus on procurement involving New Product Development (NPD) frameworks.
  • Proven ability to deliver, execute, and manage contracts for products similar to Packaging, Consumables.
  • Deep understanding of NPD frameworks, Product Briefs, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principles and a strong grasp of business and financial models for robust analysis.
  • Competent knowledge of contract law and the essential contents of price review mechanisms tied to relevant indices, 
  • Highly effective communicator and strategic thinker with proven commercial acumen, capable of building cross-level stakeholder relationships.
  • Tertiary qualification in Science, Program Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, a Commercial discipline or similar, with proficiency in using procurement, reporting platforms, and AI tools.
