Job Description

Universal Field Robots – A Sandvik Company

Product Support Specialist – Eagle Farm, Qld.

About the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join UFR as a Product Support Specialist, where you will play a vital role in delivering, commissioning, and sustaining advanced automation systems used in mobile mining equipment. Working at the forefront of Sandvik’s automation strategy, you will help ensure our technology is deployed safely, reliably, and efficiently onto customer sites—directly supporting the progression toward a “Zero-Entry Mine.”

In this role, you will take ownership of on-site installation, configuration, calibration, and SAT activities, ensuring each system meets operational and safety requirements before handover. You will conduct diagnostics and fault-finding, assess system performance, and provide hands-on technical support both in the field and remotely.

You will work closely with Product Engineering to provide feedback on insights gained on site, contributing to design improvements, reliability enhancements, and continuous improvement of the processes used to deliver UFR systems. As a key technical contact for customers and Sandvik sales areas, you will build strong working relationships that ensure successful system deployment and ongoing lifecycle support.

With opportunities to travel to mine sites and work directly with cutting-edge automation technology, this role offers a dynamic combination of field work, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll help shape the reliability, safety, and performance of industry-leading products that position UFR as a global leader in mining automation solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support installation, commissioning, SAT/FAT, and on-site testing of UFR systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and automation issues.
  • Provide technical feedback to Engineering to improve design and reliability.
  • Act as first-line technical support and primary escalation point for customers and sales areas.
  • Work with Engineering to drive reliability improvements (MTBF/MTTR).
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure successful system delivery.
  • Contribute to process and documentation improvements for system deployment.
  • Prepare systems for site readiness including configuration, calibration, and verification
  • Travel to mine sites (up to 50%) for installation, commissioning, and support.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and ensure compliance with all safety procedures.
  • About you

You are a technically capable professional with a background in mechanical, mechatronic, or automation-related engineering, or you’ve built equivalent expertise through hands-on work with heavy equipment or mining systems. You bring practical experience working with mobile machinery, vehicle subsystems, or technology-based equipment, and you’re confident supporting mechanical, electrical, and automation components in real-world environments.

You have a solid understanding of mobile equipment fundamentals — including hydraulics, electrical systems, steering, and braking — and you’re comfortable performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system verification. Your experience enables you to support installations, commissioning, and readiness activities with structure and a strong focus on quality. You communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.

You collaborate well with engineering teams, providing clear, actionable feedback to improve design, reliability, and product performance. You are customer-focused, able to build positive relationships on site, and willing to act as a key technical escalation point for both customers and internal teams. Your approach is proactive, organised, and aligned with achieving successful system deployment and lifecycle support.

Ideally, you bring exposure to mining environments, autonomous or semi-autonomous technologies, or mechatronic systems such as CAN bus devices, sensors, PLCs, or vehicle-based control systems. Hands-on skills with mechanical fitting, electrical assembly, or harness work are highly valued. Above all, you are safety-focused, adaptable, and motivated to deliver high-quality support that enhances system reliability and contributes to UFR’s mission.

    What we offer

  • Training and development opportunities, from extensive internal programs to contributions towards external studies.
  • Company-funded paid parental leave, with superannuation contributions during the leave period.
  • Sandvik Wellness Program to support and enhance your health and wellbeing
  •  Comprehensive Employee Benefits Program, including salary sacrifice options, and a Length of Service Recognition program.
