Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in Civil Land Development Projects including site plans, zoning, permitting, and design.
  • 3+ years of experience with Civil 3D.
  • Ability to lead and mentor new staff.
  • Client-facing role experience.
  • Interest in developing into a Project Manager.
  • Proficiency in Civil engineering, AutoCAD, Site development, Stormwater management, Project engineering, Civil design, and Autocad Civil 3D.
  • Experience in municipal engineering and civil site design.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • EIT or PE License.
  • Civil Engineering Project Management experience.
  • K-12 Site Design experience.
  • Job Description

    The Civil Project Engineer leads technical design efforts within a multidisciplinary team of civil engineers, planners, and designers, with a clear path toward a future Project Manager role. This position focuses on land development projects, including sustainable site design, utility layout, stormwater management, and site planning. Working closely with the Director of Land Development, the engineer contributes expertise to a diverse portfolio of commercial, retail, educational, and institutional developments. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in civil engineering design and a collaborative approach, ensuring project success from concept through construction.

    Responsibilities

  • Lead team in preparation of project drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Plan and develop site plans including grading, drainage, zoning, and utilities.
  • Prepare engineering analysis, design, calculations, and reports.
  • Evaluate land use and zoning requirements including zoning ordinances and site plan approval.
  • Prepare permit applications.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to ensure project progress and construction quality.
  • Work directly with design team, owners/developers, architects, landscape architects, engineering disciplines, and contractors.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
