Open Minds, in partnership with AFL Queensland (AFLQ), is launching an innovative program to deliver mental health support workshops for local sports organisations across Greater Brisbane.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about mental health and sport? We’re seeking a dynamic Project Lead to join our team on a part‑time basis (0.6 FTE) until 30 June 2026, with potential to increase to full‑time and extend the contract. You’ll lead the rollout of the Ahead of the Game – Play AFL programme, designed to support young athletes by providing mental health education and resources within their sporting environments. This role spans three headspace locations: Indooroopilly, Redcliffe, and Strathpine, ensuring the programme is impactful, well‑organised, and reaches its full potential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and launch the AFL mental health programme and workshops, tailored to young athletes and their communities.
  • Facilitate engaging workshops, sharing practical mental health strategies with players, parents, and coaches.
  • Build strong relationships with AFL Queensland, local clubs, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and programme success.
  • Train and support facilitators to deliver the programme effectively while promoting a safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment.
  • Monitor programme outcomes, gather feedback, and implement improvements to ensure continued success.

About you

  • A degree in project management, community development, mental health, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • A talent for leading group sessions, with a confident and engaging presentation style.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders from various backgrounds.
  • Experience in designing and managing projects, from planning to evaluation.
  • Knowledge of mental health services or local sports clubs is a plus.

Benefits

  • Joining a positive, inclusive, and values‑driven team culture.
  • Making a tangible difference in the mental health of young people.
  • Gaining valuable experience in an innovative, high‑impact programme.
  • Access to ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Salary packaging options (up to $15,899 tax‑free!).
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
