The role and team
We are looking for a Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist to join us at Mount Gambier Prison. It's a campus-style prison with work and education programs, and we manage and rehabilitate offenders. We are seeking a Psychologist who can take the lead in overseeing and managing prisoners who present as a high risk of suicide and/or self-harm, as well as providing advice to staff regarding best practice in supporting this group. You will work with our other Psychologist, reporting into our Resettlement and Reintegration Manager.
This role would be perfect for a Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist with an interest in working in a correctional environment. In this role you will:
Oversee and provide professional supervision to the prison Social Workers.
Provide advice about the management of vulnerable and at-risk prisoners.
Facilitate criminogenic and psychoeducational group intervention programs to prisoners at Mount Gambier Prison, in partnership with staff from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).
Assist in the oversight of the High-Risk Assessment Team that manages prisoners at increased risk of suicide and self-harm.
Ensure regular team meetings occur to maintain communication and currency of practice amongst Social Workers and Case Management Coordinators.
Liaise with the Sentence Management Unit (SMU), Rehabilitation Programs Branch (RPB), the Parole Board, and the Serious Offenders Committee regarding case management of those who are at risk.
Work with various staff, community agencies and the Department of Correctional Services to provide pre-release planning and post release support for prisoners.
What we're looking for
Completion of a Master's degree in Psychology.
Current registration as a practising psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA). We will also accept those who are provisionally registered and working towards their full registration.
Holder of a current driver's licence or probationary licence.
