Key Responsibilities for Supplier Handling

The Quality Head (or Quality Manager/Supplier Quality Lead, depending on company structure) plays a critical role in managing external vendors and ensuring they meet the companys rigorous quality standards.

Supplier Selection and Assessment: Participating in the selection process for new suppliers, which often involves capability assessments and audits to ensure they can consistently meet required quality standards such as or IATF (for automotive industry).

Incoming Material Inspection Protocols: Developing and implementing robust inspection protocols for all incoming raw materials (resins, colorants, etc.) and components to verify adherence to specifications.

Performance Monitoring and Feedback: Monitoring ongoing supplier performance using key quality metrics (e.g., defect rates, on-time delivery of quality parts) and providing regular feedback for continuous improvement.

Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA): Leading the investigation into supplier quality issues, ensuring effective root cause analysis (using tools like FMEA, 8D, 5 Whys), and verifying the implementation of lasting corrective and preventive actions.

Supplier Development: Collaborating with suppliers to help them improve their processes and quality systems, which may involve training or joint process improvement initiatives.

Documentation and Audits: Maintaining detailed documentation of supplier interactions, audit results, and performance records to ensure traceability and compliance during internal and external audits.
