This contract position offers the opportunity to apply your skills in a dedicated environment focused on compassionate care for oncology patients with complex hematology needs. Location: Longmont, CO (near Denver) Unit Overview: Blood Cancer/Oncology unit with 18 beds and a skilled team of 37 staff members Day and night shifts staffed by experienced RNs and CNAs Patient ratios typically 3-4 to 1 Equipment includes telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris infusion pumps, and PCA devices EMR system: Meditech Key Responsibilities: Provide front-line nursing care for oncology patients, many with chronic blood cancers Assist with procedures such as lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies (with/without sedation), and thoracentesis Administer medications, blood products, and electrolyte replacements following strict unit protocols Support a patient-centered care approach emphasizing primary nursing interventions over CNA tasks Work within a team culture that prioritizes mutual support, evidence-based practice, and continuous quality improvement Qualifications & Experience: Registered Nurse licensed with oncology experience; compassionate, adaptable, quick learner mindset essential Care for complex hematology patients is a must Preferred: Chemo and biotherapy certification (education provided if needed) Preferred: Step-down experience and familiarity with standing orders such as fluid boluses and fever protocols Unit Highlights: Awarded Unit of Distinction 4 out of the past 5 years for quality measures including falls reduction, infection control, and nurse certification rates Known for a cohesive, fun, and knowledgeable nursing team Emphasis on nurse-driven care and professional development Location Insight:Situated in Longmont, CO, this position provides access to the vibrant Denver metro area with its cultural amenities, outdoor activities, and community resources.
