Job Description

Our client - A Central Queensland coal operation is ready for a step-change in reliability and execution discipline, and they need a superintendent-level leader to drive it. This role suits someone who can bring order to the backlog, build shutdown scopes that actually get delivered, and convert reliability work into real outcomes: availability, MTBF and cost performance, without compromising compliance or safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end maintenance work lifecycle: work identification, scoping, job plan quality, scheduling, execution governance and close-out.
  • Establish and maintain strong routines, governance and KPIs that protect plan stability and execution discipline.
  • Own SAP (or similar CMMS) performance, including backlog health, work order quality, defect elimination, component change-outs and shutdown planning.
  • Stabilise and prioritise maintenance backlogs, build executable shutdown scopes and ensure scopes are locked and delivered.
  • Improve equipment reliability and availability (especially mobile fleets) using RCA, defect elimination and PM/component strategy optimisation.
  • Deliver measurable outcomes (availability, MTBF, cost per hour, schedule compliance, backlog health).
  • Lead and develop planners; manage key interfaces with trades, operations and contractors to protect the plan.
  • Manage maintenance cost performance, budgets and contractor/OEM relationships while maintaining safety and statutory compliance.
  • Apply QLD Coal Mining Safety & Health legislation to maintenance execution, statutory obligations and risk-based planning.

About you

  • Proven senior experience in maintenance planning and reliability within open-cut coal mining or a comparable heavy asset environment.
  • Practical reliability skillset (RCA, defect elimination, PM optimisation) with evidence of measurable improvement.
  • A credible leader who can influence operations and maintenance leaders and hold execution lines.
  • Commercial mindset with experience managing costs, budgets and contractor performance.
