Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Kolkata for a Research & Development Scientist at The Waxpol Industries Limited .

The R&D Scientist will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing platform-based chemical formulations to reduce manufacturing complexity, improve formulation robustness, and manage variability in raw material supply—while supporting scalable FMCG manufacturing across multiple product categories .

The role requires strong formulation science expertise, hands-on laboratory execution, and close collaboration with Production, Procurement, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop platform-based formulations adaptable across multiple SKUs with minimal formulation and process variation.
• Optimize existing formulations to improve manufacturability, stability, cost efficiency, and supply-chain resilience .
• Evaluate, qualify, and validate alternate raw materials and suppliers while maintaining product performance and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct laboratory experiments, pilot-scale studies, and plant-scale trials in collaboration with production and process teams.
• Support scale-up and technology transfer from laboratory to manufacturing.
• Perform root-cause analysis for formulation-related quality or process deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure compliance with BIS, ASTM, DIN, JIS , and internal quality standards during formulation development and change management.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation , including formulations, SOPs, validation protocols, and change-control records.
• Develop, validate, and improve test methods relevant to formulation performance and quality control.
• Work closely with Procurement to assess raw material supply robustness and risk, and with QA/QC to define testing methodologies and acceptance criteria.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on simplification, standardization, cost optimization, and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or related fields (PhD preferred ).
• 3–8 years of hands-on experience in formulation R&D within cleaning chemicals, automotive chemicals, lubricants, specialty chemicals, resins, or polymer-based products .
• Strong understanding of surfactant systems, emulsions, additives, solvents, polymers, and performance modifiers , relevant to FMCG and automotive formulations.
• Proven experience designing formulations tolerant to raw material variability and multi-supplier sourcing .
• Practical exposure to scale-up, pilot trials, and manufacturing support .
• Familiarity with BIS, ASTM, DIN, and JIS standards , stability testing, and product validation protocols.
• Strong analytical, experimental design, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Production, QA, Procurement, and Supply Chain functions.
• High proficiency in technical documentation , structured problem-solving, and change-management practices.
