Research Engineer

Role Description

The Chair of
Structural Design Research
belongs to the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA), at ETH Zurich. We are looking for a Research Engineer to join ongoing and future research projects at the intersection of machine learning, and structural design (e.g. trusses, space frames).

The work focuses on data-driven generation of structural systems. You will be involved in developing, experimenting with, and evaluating machine learning models that help navigate large design spaces. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys research-driven development, prototyping ideas, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

• Conceptual structural systems (e.g. trusses, space frames)
• Unsupervised machine learning and deep learning methods
• Analysis, visualization, and interpretation of learned design spaces
• Contributing to research outputs (prototypes, publications, open-source code)
