GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT

The Diabetes in Pregnancy Research Program seeks an enthusiastic Research Scientist to join our research team and advance our mission to “.” The Research Scientist, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, will play an instrumental role in bringing scientific advances to pregnant and lactating individuals to improve their health and that of their children. Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator (Dr. Camille E. Powe) and Diabetes Research Center Management, the Research Scientist (PM) will provide leadership and expertise in clinical/translational research and program development, including administrative, regulatory, financial, and scientific support. The Research Scientist will work closely with the Principal Investigator to lead and carry out the group’s mission. This position provides outstanding opportunities that support scientific development and career growth. As such, the project scientist must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong scientific background in clinical research. There are multiple possibilities for interaction with other researchers in Boston, as well as collaboration with many national and international research groups and institutions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists the PI in designing and overseeing clinical and translational research studies
  • Performs literature reviews and synthesizes relevant data
  • Prepares scientific protocols, including for regulatory submission (, IRB, FDA)
  • Designs instruments for high quality data collection, including in electronic form
  • Writes, edits, and formats original scientific content for manuscripts, grant applications, and progress reports.
  • Assembles figures and develops scientific models for manuscripts, grant applications, posters, and presentations.
  • Manages scientific communications with co-authors, collaborators, journal editors, and graphic designers to ensure quality and scientific accuracy of written documents.
  • Coordinates submission of scientific manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Provides writing and editing support to colleagues and trainees during manuscript preparation and submission.
  • Leads and coordinates outreach to stakeholders and community groups
  • Organizes scientific seminars in areas of interest to the group
  • Manages laboratory website and social media accounts.
  • Participates in national (and possibly international) scientific meetings.
  • Assists in the training and mentorship of students, residents, fellows, and research staff
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

    ·Intellectual independence and initiative

    ·Capacity to organize complex projects and diverse staff members and outstanding judgment with regards to study design and protocols

    ·Superior writing, presentation, and organizational skills for manuscript and abstract preparations, as well as completion of grants in a timely fashion

    ·Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet applications) and the ability to learn new computer applications.

    ·Familiarity with statistical analyses and electronic data collection tools.

    ·Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

    ·Ability to oversee research staff and others on the team in collaborative projects.

    ·Experience in clinical research

    ·Strong interest in women’s health and related topics

    ·Ability to work within NIH and other federal and foundation regulations and guidelines.

    EXPERIENCE:

    PhD or MD required

    Minimum of 5 years of research experience (inclusive of graduate studies) required

    Preferred: 7+ years preferred
