Salary: $76,500 to $80,000 plus superannuation per annum

Our client Ahuja Group Pty Ltd operates a 7-Eleven convenience store franchise in Hallam, Victoria. The business provides retail services including fuel sales, convenience foods, beverages, groceries, and related products to the local community. The store operates extended hours to serve customers throughout the day and night, requiring sophisticated retail management and operational oversight.
As a Retail Manager you will be responsible for the overall management and operation of the 7-Eleven store, ensuring efficient business operations, excellent customer service, compliance with all regulatory requirements, and achievement of sales and profitability targets. This position requires strategic planning, staff management, inventory control, financial oversight, and maintenance of brand standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Management and Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement business strategies to achieve sales targets, profitability goals, and operational excellence
- Plan and coordinate retail operations to maximize store performance and customer satisfaction
- Analyze sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for business growth
- Prepare budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring expenditure against budget allocations
- Establish and review operational policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance
- Set performance standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the store
- Coordinate with 7-Eleven head office regarding franchise requirements, promotions, and brand standards
Staff Management and Leadership
- Recruit, select, train, and supervise retail staff including assistant managers, shift supervisors, and sales assistants
- Develop staff rosters ensuring adequate coverage for all trading hours while managing labor costs
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members
- Address staff performance issues and implement disciplinary procedures when necessary
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and professional development
- Ensure all staff are trained in customer service standards, product knowledge, safety procedures, and compliance requirements
- Manage workplace relations issues and ensure compliance with employment legislation
Sales and Customer Service Management
- Oversee daily sales operations and ensure excellent customer service standards are maintained
- Handle customer complaints and resolve issues professionally and efficiently
- Implement strategies to enhance customer experience and build customer loyalty
- Monitor competitor activities and recommend strategies to maintain competitive advantage
- Coordinate promotional activities and marketing initiatives to drive sales
- Ensure proper merchandising and product displays that maximize sales opportunities
- Analyze customer purchasing patterns and adjust product offerings accordingly
Inventory and Supply Chain Management
- Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability while minimizing waste and obsolescence
- Coordinate ordering of stock, fuel, and supplies, negotiating with suppliers where applicable
- Implement stock control procedures including regular stocktakes and inventory reconciliation
- Monitor product expiry dates and manage stock rotation, particularly for perishable items
- Investigate and address stock discrepancies, shrinkage, and loss prevention
- Ensure compliance with 7-Eleven ordering systems and protocols
- Maintain appropriate inventory management systems and records
Financial Management
- Manage store budgets and monitor financial performance against targets
- Prepare and analyze financial reports including sales reports, profit and loss statements, and cash flow analysis
- Control operational expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Oversee cash handling procedures and banking processes
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Ensure accurate pricing of products and services
- Monitor and analyze key financial metrics including sales per labor hour, gross profit margins, and operating expenses
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including Work Health and Safety (WHS), Fair Work Act, food safety regulations, and tobacco and alcohol licensing requirements
- Maintain required licenses and permits for the operation of the business
- Implement and monitor WHS policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments
- Ensure compliance with 7-Eleven franchise agreement requirements and brand standards
- Maintain compliance with fuel quality standards and environmental regulations
- Ensure proper record-keeping and documentation for all regulatory requirements
- Manage insurance claims and incident reporting procedur
Fuel Operations Management
- Oversee fuel sales operations and ensure compliance with fuel safety regulations
- Monitor fuel inventory levels and coordinate fuel deliveries
- Manage fuel pricing in accordance with 7-Eleven guidelines and market conditions
- Ensure fuel pumps and related equipment are properly maintained and calibrated
- Implement and monitor fuel loss prevention procedures
- Handle customer issues related to fuel sales and quality
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience in retail management, preferably in convenience store or fast-paced retail environment
- Proven experience in managing a team of staff and achieving sales targets
- Strong financial management skills including budgeting, P&L analysis, and cost control
- Excellent leadership and people management capabilities
- Strong customer service orientation with proven ability to resolve complex customer issues
- Experience in inventory management and supply chain coordination
- Knowledge of WHS legislation and compliance requirements
- Proficiency in retail point-of-sale systems and inventory management software
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret sales data and business metrics
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to make decisions under pressure
- High level of integrity and ability to handle cash and financial transactions
Desirable Requirements
- Experience managing a 7-Eleven store or similar convenience retail operation
- Experience in fuel retail operations
- Formal qualifications in business management, retail management, or related field
- Knowledge of 7-Eleven systems, procedures, and brand standards
- Experience with food safety requirements and regulations
- Knowledge of tobacco and alcohol licensing requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position requires work across various shifts including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays as needed for business operations
- Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting items up to 15kg, and working in various store areas including refrigerated sections
- Fast-paced environment requiring ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands
- Store operates extended hours requiring flexibility in work schedule
- Some exposure to weather conditions when managing forecourt operations
