Job Description

JD – Robotics Engineer
Location: Pune
Experience: 2-5 Years
Education: B. Tech/B. E. in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Science.
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Company:
We founded Sakar Robotics to collapse fragmented point solutions into a single extensible mobile manipulation platform. Traditional automation requires bespoke integration per workflow—slow to deploy, rigid to evolve. We built a composable stack where perception, autonomy, manipulation and orchestration cooperate natively.
Guided by field feedback across regulated, high‑mix and throughput‑critical domains, we iterate on production reality—not lab abstractions—building durable leverage for customers.
Our mission is to deliver a unified robotics platform that can be rapidly configured to execute diverse workflows—reducing time‑to‑value, elevating safety, and embedding continuous improvement loops into daily operations.
Role Summary
Robotics Engineer will integrate and optimize control strategies for commercial robotic arms mounted on our autonomous mobile manipulators. Focus will be on high-level motion planning, trajectory execution, and manipulation behaviors rather than low-level motor control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Integrate commercial robotic arms (UR, ABB, KUKA, etc.) with our ROS2-based mobile manipulator platform using vendor APIs and ROS-Industrial packages.
- Develop high-level control and motion strategies (trajectory planning, speed/acceleration control, collision avoidance) for tasks.
- Implement manipulation behaviors (pick-and-place, grasping, tool changing, etc) using Move It2 or similar frameworks.
- Coordinate control between mobile base and arm for smooth, stable whole-body movements.
- Validate and optimize performance through simulation (Gazebo/Isaac Sim) and real-robot testing.
- Debug and troubleshoot integration issues between arms, grippers, sensors, and mobile platforms.
Must-Have Skills:
- 2–5 years hands-on experience with commercial robotic arms (UR, ABB, KUKA, Fanuc, etc.) or mobile manipulators.
- Programming Languages: Strong proficiency in Python and C/C++ (production-level code quality expected)
- Robotics Frameworks: Deep hands-on experience with ROS2, Move It2, and ROS-Industrial
- Motion Planning: Solid understanding of trajectory planning, motion execution, and collision avoidance
- Commercial Arm Experience: Hands-on programming with UR, UFactory or similar industrial arms
- Simulation Tools: Experience with Gazebo or Isaac Sim for robotics simulation
- Hardware Integration: Comfortable working with real robotic hardware, grippers, end-effectors, and communication protocols (Ethernet, serial, vendor-specific interfaces)
- Linux/Embedded Systems: Comfortable working in Ubuntu/Linux environments, SSH, version control (Git)
- Strong ROS/ROS2 skills, especially ROS-Industrial and Move It/Move It2.
- Experience programming and controlling industrial arms using vendor SDKs/APIs.
- Understanding of robot kinematics, motion planning, and basic control concepts.
- Comfortable working with real robotic hardware and troubleshooting integration issues.
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication and coordination
- Ownership and accountability
- Problem-solving and proactive approach
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- Team collaboration and positive attitude
