Engineering Delivery Services Lead (Mechanical)

The role leads a team of engineers deployed to production regions delivering engineering services to production. They will manage an engineering team to support day to day activities for our operating assets. They will serve as the direct point of contact in India for the asset team and support regional leads to deliver on their priorities with India team.

Additionally, the role will represent the mechanical and rotating equipment discipline in India and provide verification on mechanical and rotating equipment engineering activities. They will foster excellence in team dynamics through role-modelling bp values whilst promoting a positive mindset and will support the development and coaching the engineering team. The role requires regular interactions with stakeholders across the business, to ensure the right team members are deployed to the right place at the right time and are delivering work to a high standard.


Support business delivery, integration and risk management

  • Role models safety leadership and embeds safety culture in the team
  • Leads the operational delivery and performance management of the activity delivered by their team
  • Actively liaises with region leads/refinery superintendents and serves as integrator for the fully deployed resources
  • Manage various stakeholder relationships & communications/alignment
  • Deliver engineering work scopes through 3rd parties in support of asset/business delivery, including defining scope of work, managing quality, and interfacing on behalf of bp partner businesses

People management and deployment:

  • Create an atmosphere of confidence, psychological safety and motivation and an inclusive working environment where everyone can make a difference and give their best in alignment with bp’s “Who We Are” framework
  • Manages performance of the team
  • Builds local organisational capability through coaching and mentoring and supporting individual development plans
  • Manages recruiting to support own team and supports other leaders with recruiting efforts
  • Work with various stakeholders and supported business to ensure deployed engineers are deployed to the right place at right time, considering business requirements, individual development plans

Discipline health and technical oversight:

  • Provides discipline coaching and verification for mechanical and rotating equipment discipline and engages the broader team for other disciplines work verification
  • Enforces technical standards through verification and drive continuous improvement in quality
  • Works together with other engineering leaders to manage the health of engineering discipline
  • Maintains connectivity back to the central disciplines and Chief Engineers to ensure consistency of processes and discipline health
  • Participates in regional and central communities of practice to capture and embed lessons and best practices
  • Stimulate avenues for innovation, for new practices and technology

Must have educational qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree to the equivalent of Bachelor level or higher

Preferred education/certifications:

  • Professional accreditation, such as Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer


Minimum years of relevant experience: 12 Years

Total years of experience : 12 - 20 years

Must have experience/skills (To be hired with):

  • Technical understanding of mechanical or rotating equipment engineering principles
  • Experience of working in an oil and gas processing / refinery/ Petrochemical plant
  • Risk management processes, including being able to guide others through a risk-based decision process
  • Demonstrated people leadership and stakeholder management experience with an ability to network and influence across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels in the field and office
  • Led multi discipline teams
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships across a global community
  • Ability to establish and sustain a strong team culture
  • Passion for developing and coaching people to continuously improve
  • Ability and confidence to engage with and influence senior leadership on technical matters
  • Proven record of accomplishment in delivering results under pressure
  • Fluent in written and oral English communication
  • Conversant with relevant industry standards with a proven ability in practical application
  • Delivery focused and able to demonstrate effective project management skills

  • Experience of working with remote teams with a collaborative approach to delivery
  • A proven record of accomplishment in risk management and contractor performance management
  • Track record of engaging, influencing and leading across teams to deliver engineering improvements
  • Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is delivered
  • Self-motivated, delivery focused with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction
