Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting project management teams to manage their safety functions, observing day-to-day operations while ensuring compliance with applicable state and/or federal safety standards, and conducting needed safety training and safety meetings. 


Essential Functions

  • Assist with injury care and case management, and workers' compensation cases

  • Conduct or assist with various safety training topics and conduct monthly safety training

  • Help projects track risk/loss and assist projects with site safety assessment

  • Meet with project operations teams to review accidents and injuries and work on preventive measures

  • Help implement the drug and alcohol program and conduct on-site drug screens

  • Assist with the corporate DOT program and reviewing state DOT requirements

    Required Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 6 months of heavy highway construction safety experience

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a safety-related discipline preferred

  • Field operations experience is strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and safety strategies to promote effective local and state safety compliance

  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to conduct presentations to large groups in Spanish and English

  • Must be able to work nights

  • Must be able to work weekends (in person as needed, or on call)

  • Must have a clean driving record and pass a criminal background check
