Job Description: Chemical Safety
Location: Jagiroad, Assam
Years of Experience: 8 to 12 Years
1. Key Responsibilities
A. Chemical Safety Management
Develop, implement, and maintain chemical safety programs including chemical handling, storage, dispensing and disposal systems.
Review and approve Chemical Risk Assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for all chemical-related processes.
Ensure compliance with standards such as NFPA, OSHA, SEMI S2/S8/S10, ISO 45001 and local regulations.
Maintain and review SDS (Safety Data Sheets), chemical inventory, segregation guidelines and chemical compatibility matrices.
Conduct safety reviews during tool installation, commissioning and process start-up.
B. Compliance & Documentation
Ensure adherence to statutory and legal requirements (The OSH Code 2020, The Factories Act 1948, PESO, Pollution Control Board norms, etc.)
Coordinate with various departments for preparation of HIRA document and maintain documentation.
Prepare and maintain safety documentation such as HAZOP reports, SOPs, PTW systems, incident investigation reports and compliance checklists.
C. Audits, Training & Incident Response
Conduct internal safety audits and support in external audits (statutory, customer, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001).
Conduct training sessions on chemical handling, emergency response, spill management, PPE usage and gas safety for operators and other staff.
Act as a key member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and lead response to chemical spills, leaks, exposures and other emergencies.
Conduct mock drills related to the chemical spillage in coordination with related departments.
D. Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate closely with process engineering, operations, maintenance, projects and facility teams to ensure that chemical safety is embedded throughout the facility lifecycle.
Provide safety input during procurement of tools, chemicals and engineering projects.
2. Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of hazardous chemicals, toxic gases, solvents, pyrophoric, corrosives and related risk management.
Hands-on experience with chemical safety systems, LOTO, PTW, incident investigation, root-cause analysis and emergency handling.
Familiarity with semiconductor/cleanroom environment is a strong advantage.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, PFDs and safety interlock logic.
Excellent communication, training and leadership skills.
3. Preferred Background
Work experience in chemical plants, pharmaceutical plants, paint/coatings manufacturing or semiconductor/electronics manufacturing.
Experience in greenfield project safety, commissioning or facility start-up is desirable.
Exposure to international safety standards (SEMI, NFPA, OSHA, ISO 45001).
