Job Description: Fire Safety Engineer

Location: Jagiroad, Assam

Years of Experience: 8 to 12 Years


1. Key Responsibilities

A. Fire Prevention & Risk Management

  • Conduct fire risk assessments, fire load calculations and hazard identification across various facility areas.
  • Review building layouts and equipment installation plans to ensure fire safety compliance.
  • Assist in implementing fire safety standards, codes, and regulations (NBC 2016, NFPA, The OSH Code 2020, The Factories Act 1948, State Factory Rules).
  • Monitor high-risk areas and implement corrective actions to reduce fire hazards.

B. Fire Protection Systems Oversight

  • Support inspection and maintenance of fire protection systems, including:
  • Fire detection & alarm systems (FDAS)
  • Sprinkler and hydrant networks
  • Clean agent systems (FM200/NOVEC)
  • Emergency lighting and exit route systems
  • Portable fire extinguishers
  • Conduct routine checks to ensure all systems are functional and compliant.

C. Emergency Response Readiness

  • Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
  • Assist in developing and executing mock drills for fire, gas leak, chemical spill and evacuation scenarios.
  • Ensure availability and readiness of firefighting equipment at all times.
  • Support incident investigations related to fire or emergency events.

D. Permit-to-Work & Hot Work Monitoring

  • Implement and monitor Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures for hot work, confined space entry, electrical work etc.
  • Ensure fire watchers and temporary fire protection arrangements are in place for hot work jobs.


E. Training & Awareness

  • Conduct fire safety training for employees, contractors and security personnel.
  • Demonstrate proper use of fire extinguishers, fire hydrants and emergency communication systems.
  • Help develop fire warden training and fire safety awareness programs.

F. Inspections & Compliance

  • Carry out daily, weekly and monthly fire safety inspections across plant buildings, utilities, cleanrooms and storage areas.
  • Maintain accurate fire safety records, checklists, and deficiency reports.
  • Support internal and external fire safety audits and regulatory inspections.

G. Coordination & Support

  • Coordinate with Projects, Facilities, Utilities, Production, Warehouse, and EHS teams for fire safety integration during equipment installation, utility operations, and facility modifications.
  • Support Fire Safety Manager in planning fire protection requirements for new projects and plant expansions.


2. Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of fire prevention principles, industrial fire protection systems and emergency response.
  • Knowledge of fire safety codes such as NFPA, NBC and industrial fire protection guidelines.
  • Experience in high-risk environments involving chemicals, solvents and electrical systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, PFDs and safety interlock logic.
  • Good communication, training and coordination skills.
  • Ability to conduct fire safety inspections, incident investigations and risk assessments.


3. Preferred Background

  • Experience in industrial plants such as automotive, electronics, semiconductor, pharma or other high-tech manufacturing.
  • Exposure to cleanroom fire safety, ESD-sensitive environments and hazardous material storage.
  • Experience working with fire protection contractors, OEMs and facility engineering teams.
