Job Description: Safety Engineer - Machine/Equipment

Location: Jagiroad, Assam

Years of Experience: 8 to 12 Years


1. Key Responsibilities

A. Machine Safety & Risk Assessment

  • Develop and implement Machine & Equipment Safety Programs for all fabrication tools, utilities systems, robotics, automation and support equipment.
  • Perform machine risk assessments, HIRA, JSA and support design safety reviews for new equipment.
  • Ensure equipment compliance with relevant safety standards such as SEMI S2/S8/S10, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC standards, NFPA and applicable local regulations.
  • Evaluate machine guarding, interlocks, safety PLCs, sensors, LOTO points and emergency stop functions during installation and commissioning.
  • Review and verify machine safety documents including SOPs, Tool Safety Checklists and OEM-provided safety certifications.
  • Collaborate with tool suppliers to ensure all safety controls, interlocks and shielding meet required standards before tool acceptance.

B. Commissioning & Change Management

  • Provide safety oversight during tool installation, testing, commissioning and operational validation.
  • Participate in MOC (Management of Change) reviews for modifications, upgrades, or relocation of equipment.
  • Verify equipment safety before release for production.

C. Audits, Compliance & Documentation

  • Conduct internal machine safety audits; support external audits (regulatory, customer, ISO etc).
  • Ensure compliance with The OSH Code 2020, The Factories Act 1948, Indian Electricity Rules, machine guarding guidelines and other statutory requirements.
  • Maintain documentation such as Risk Assessments, Inspection Checklists, Incident Reports and equipment safety records.

D. Training & Incident Response

  • Conduct training for engineers, operators, and maintenance staff on machine safeguarding, Lockout–Tagout (LOTO), Safe maintenance/repair, Electrical and mechanical safety etc.
  • Lead and support incident investigations related to machine operations or equipment failures.

E. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Projects, Operations, Maintenance and OEM vendors to ensure safety is embedded from procurement through operation.
  • Provide safety inputs during equipment selection and procurement.


2. Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of machine guarding, interlocks, safety PLCs, robotics/automation safety, LOTO, and mechanical/electrical risk controls.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance safety.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom operations and high-precision equipment handling is an advantage.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, safety circuits, control logic, and tool layouts.
  • Strong communication, documentation and leadership skills.


3. Preferred Background

  • Experience in automobile or electronics manufacturing, industrial equipment manufacturing, heavy engineering, robotics/automation or semiconductor tools.
  • Exposure to greenfield project safety, equipment installations and complex automation systems.
  • Knowledge of international safety standards (SEMI, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC, NFPA, OSHA).
