Job Description: Safety Engineer - Traffic and Logistics
Location: Jagiroad, Assam
Years of Experience: 8 to 12 Years
1. Key Responsibilities
A. Traffic & Vehicle Movement Safety
Develop and implement a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for internal roads, loading bays, parking areas and logistics corridors.
Design safe routes for the movement of trucks, forklifts, cranes, delivery vehicles, and shuttle vehicles.
Ensure segregation of pedestrian pathways, vehicle lanes, and MHE movement zones.
Install and inspect traffic signages, road markings, mirrors, barriers, reflectors and speed control measures.
B. Logistics & Material Movement Safety
Oversee safety of logistics activities such as loading, unloading, stacking, and internal transfer of materials, including chemicals and sensitive semiconductor components.
Ensure compliance with SOPs for safe use of MHE such as forklifts, pallet trucks, reach trucks, stackers etc.
Review and approve material handling risk assessments.
Ensure safe dock operations, bay management, container and trailer safety, traffic queue management
C. Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and guidelines related to traffic, road safety and industrial logistics.
Maintain documentation such as incident reports, near-miss records, inspection formats, SOPs, emergency protocols and audit checklists.
Conduct routine safety inspections and audits on traffic infrastructure, driver behaviour, vehicle fitness and MHE operations.
D. Contractor & Driver Management
Establish safety protocols for transport contractors, fleet operators, third-party logistics providers and on-site delivery partners.
Verify driver qualifications, licenses and fitness for duty.
Ensure compliance with speed limits, loading norms, PPE requirements and safe driving practices.
E. Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response
Develop and implement emergency plans for vehicle collisions, MHE accidents, chemical transport incidents and roadway blockages.
Lead or support investigations of traffic- and logistics-related incidents using root cause analysis (RCA) tools.
Coordinate with security, logistics teams during emergency situations.
F. Training & Awareness
Conduct training for employees, drivers, and contractors on:
Defensive driving
Safe forklift and MHE operations
Speed and route compliance
Pedestrian safety
Vehicle inspection and maintenance
Conduct regular toolbox talks and awareness campaigns on traffic & logistics safety.
G. Cross-functional Coordination
Collaborate with logistics, security, operations, facilities, planning and project teams for safe layout design and workflow planning.
Participate in the planning of internal road layouts, parking expansions, and traffic infrastructure during plant expansion.
2. Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of traffic management systems, MHE safety, vehicle movement patterns, industrial logistics workflows and safety engineering principles.
Experience in managing stakeholder teams including transporters, contractors and large workforce groups.
Strong analytical skills for route planning, congestion analysis and incident investigation.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
Familiarity with ERP/logistics systems and digital tracking tools is an advantage.
Good communication, training delivery and documentation skills.
3. Preferred Background
Experience in traffic & logistics safety management within manufacturing plants, especially automobile, electronics, semiconductor, FMCG or industrial units.
Exposure to large campus traffic planning, warehouse operations and contractor management.
Understanding of relevant standards such as OSHA, ISO 45001, NFPA and internal logistics safety guidelines.
