Job Description: Fire Safety Manager
Location: Jagiroad, Assam
Experience: 12 to 15 Years
1. Key Responsibilities
A. Fire Safety Strategy & Compliance
Develop and implement the Fire Safety Management Plan
Ensure compliance with NBC, NFPA standards, state factory rules, fire dept. regulations and other statutory requirements.
Conduct fire load assessments, fire risk analysis and gap assessments for all facility blocks.
Review fire safety aspects in design, engineering and construction of buildings and utilities.
B. Fire Protection Systems Management
Oversee design, installation, testing, and commissioning of all fire protection systems including:
Fire detection & alarm systems (FDAS)
Automatic sprinkler systems
Hydrant network
Clean agent systems (e.g., FM200, NOVEC)
Emergency lighting & exit signage
Ensure preventive maintenance, inspection and reliability of all fire protection systems.
C. High-Risk Area Fire Safety
Manage fire safety for semiconductor-specific high-risk zones:
Cleanrooms
Solvent & chemical storage areas
Exhaust & scrubber systems
Electrical rooms
Utility areas
Ensure that risk controls, interlocks and fire suppression systems meet semiconductor industry best practices.
D. Emergency Preparedness & Response
Function as the Chief Fire & Emergency Response Coordinator for the plant.
Develop site-specific emergency response plans for fire, explosion, gas leak, chemical spill, and evacuation.
Conduct periodic mock drills, including specialized scenarios (cleanroom fire, gas leak emergency, confined space rescue).
Ensure availability, readiness, and competency of the Fire Response Team.
E. Training & Awareness
Conduct fire safety training and certification for employees, contractors, and security staff.
Provide training in:
Fire extinguisher usage
Fire watch duties
Hot work safety
Evacuation procedures
Emergency communication
Clean agent suppression protocols
Conduct fire warden training and develop an internal fire warden network.
F. Hot Work, Permit Systems & Risk Controls
Oversee Permit-to-Work (PTW) system related to hot work, confined space, electrical isolation and hazardous operations.
Ensure strict compliance with fire watch protocols and temporary fire protection measures during project/construction activities.
G. Inspections, Audits & Investigations
Conduct routine inspections of fire protection systems, escape routes, emergency equipment and assembly areas.
Lead fire safety audits and support external audits (insurance, customers, government).
Investigate fire incidents/near misses using RCA tools and enforce corrective actions.
H. Coordination & Leadership
Work closely with Projects, Facilities, Utilities, Production, Warehouse and external consultants to integrate fire safety in all phases.
Liaise with local fire authorities, insurance agencies and mutual aid organizations.
Provide fire safety inputs during procurement of chemicals, equipment and materials.
2. Required Skills & Competencies
Strong command of national and international fire safety codes (NFPA, NBC 2016 etc).
Hands-on experience in fire protection system design, commissioning, maintenance and audits.
Knowledge of semiconductor facility hazards: chemicals, solvents, flammables, toxic gases, cleanroom materials.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, PFDs and safety interlock logic.
Strong leadership skills in emergency response and firefighting operations.
Good communication, training and documentation skills.
3. Preferred Background
Experience in large-scale industrial plants—automotive, electronics, semiconductor, pharma or high-tech manufacturing.
Experience in managing complex fire safety infrastructure and high-risk environments.
Exposure to cleanroom fire protection and hazardous material storage is a strong advantage.
