A Sales Engineer bridges technical expertise with sales, helping sell complex products by understanding customer needs, designing tailored solutions, delivering technical presentations/demos, and supporting the sales team to close deals, often in B2B tech/industrial sectors, requiring strong communication, problem-solving, and technical skills. Key duties include client needs assessment, solution customization, proposal writing, technical support, training, and feedback to R&D.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise: Act as a technical expert for complex products (software, hardware, systems).
Client Engagement: Understand client needs, conduct discovery, and present how products solve problems.
Solution Design: Develop customized technical solutions and proposals matching client requirements.
Sales Support: Collaborate with sales executives, provide technical support during the sales cycle, and help secure orders.
Product Demonstration: Deliver compelling technical presentations and demos.
Customer Training: Train clients and staff on product usage and functionality.
Feedback Loop: Communicate client feedback to engineering/product teams for improvements.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience: Proven sales and technical experience, especially with complex B2B solutions.
Technical Aptitude: Deep understanding of relevant technologies (AI, Cloud, Software, etc.).
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Business Acumen: Ability to link technical features to business value and financial benefits.
Typical Work Environment
B2B settings, high-tech, manufacturing, or software industries.
Often involves travel to client sites.
Works closely with sales, product, and engineering teams.
